Sr. Manager of Legal Services
JOB DESCRIPTION
Location: Remote; Anywhere in the Continental US
Reports to: VP of Legal Services
Position: Full time, 40 hours per week, exempt employee
Salary: $100,000 - $120,000
JOB PURPOSE
We are looking for a highly qualified attorney to serve as Sr. Manager of Legal Services to support and work collaboratively with the Legal Team of The Recycling Partnership. Reporting to the Vice President of Legal Services and engaging with many members of The Partnership team, this position is responsible for providing legal support for a wide variety of issues and assisting with important Partnership activities and initiatives. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of independently managing assigned tasks effectively and efficiently and working on complex matters with multiple stakeholders and competing interests.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS JOB
The Sr. Manager of Legal Services is not expected to be an expert in recycling law but will need to be a strong collaborator who can gather information from experts inside and outside of the organization and respond to a multitude of diverse legal issues as they arise. The Sr. Manager of Legal Services will need to be well organized, comfortable with a fast-paced environment, and working cross-functionally. Key duties will include:
- Providing world-class legal services and advice to management and others on a variety of legal topics and issues related to grant agreements, membership agreements, independent contractor agreements, non-disclosure agreements, employment matters, nonprofit and tax law, contracts, joint ventures, intellectual property, data and privacy, and new Partnership activities and initiatives.
- Drafting, reviewing, and revising legal agreements, policies, and procedures, conducting research, and collecting and analyzing information.
- Managing various legal projects and deadlines, ensuring legal and business objectives are met in a timely fashion.
- Supporting existing and new strategic initiatives and identifying and addressing strategic, organizational, and operational issues, applying risk management techniques thereto and offering user-friendly advice on legal issues.
- Respectfully and effectively communicating and negotiating with internal and external partners (i.e., Partnership colleagues, funders, regulators, outside counsel, etc.) and thereby creating trusted relationships.
- Conducting work with integrity and responsibility.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE FOR THIS JOB
- Legal degree (JD) and current state bar admission required.
- Minimum of 5 years law firm or in-house counsel experience.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills while avoiding legalese.
- Highest degree of professionalism, ethics and integrity.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Sound judgement and ability to analyze and synthesize situations and information quickly and independently.
- Preference for knowledge and understanding of tax, nonprofit or corporate law and experience providing tax and/or corporate legal services to nonprofit entities.
- Experience with B corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships, structuring joint ventures and new activities, intellectual property, privacy and data issues, and creating and implementing legal agreements, policies and procedures a plus.
- Understanding of external environment and issues applicable to non-profit organizations helpful.
