Role Description
The Director of Annual Fund oversees a program focused on campaigns targeting individual donors of $1 to $500. They will be responsible for meeting targets by developing and managing multiple annual fund channels including managing direct mail and email fundraising, website donations, paid digital, social media, point of sale donations, vehicle donations and workplace and 3rd party giving. This leader will also provide direct response expertise to content strategy, manage direct response/integrated marketing projects, and liaise with outside agencies as needed. This leader will report to the Executive Vice President (EVP) of Advancement.
The Director works to grow the San Francisco SPCA's individual donor base, increase retention of existing donors, steward active donors, and increase monthly sustaining gifts. Oversee multi-channel management of regular direct mail and digital engagement, stewardship, and partnering with major gifts team to move donors up to higher giving level with strategic moves management. Utilize creative acquisition tactics to add more donors and increase revenues. This position also manages directs the program analytics.
Core Responsibilities
- Meets or exceeds annual revenue goals.
- Work with the EVP of Advancement, VP Marketing and Communications, Development team, and consultants to direct strategy, design and implementation of solicitations to expand the number of donors and prospects. Manage a detailed schedule of mail, email and stewardship activities across all donor channels to ensure timely and appropriate acknowledgment and stewardship of existing donors.
- Partner with the Marketing and Communications department to reach new donors and renew existing donors with printed and online materials.
- Optimize workplace giving programs to increase matching gifts and third-party gifts. Grow donor retention and promote the use of monthly giving vehicles.
- Ensure that all reporting requirements related to contacts with direct mail vendor and charitable registrations such as GuideStar and Charity Navigator are met.
- Recommend to senior management revenue goals for the Annual Fund to meet and grow revenue targets and keep expenses within budget.
- Manage analytics agenda and workstream to ensure Annual Fund reporting requirements are met within current FTE’s.
- Stay abreast of changes in the field of development including direct mail, technology, online giving and donor engagement.
- Thoroughly understand the Society’s mission and programs; serve as an enthusiastic, effective advocate and champion of these programs internally and throughout the community.
- Interact with all levels in the organization, especially the leadership level, to assist and educate on communication strategies to drive results.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
- Minimum of 7 years of direct response management in fundraising or revenue generation programs
- Minimum of 3-5 years management experience.
- Demonstrated expertise interacting with executive leadership and peers, donors and volunteers
- Ability to navigate multiple departments in an organization to identify donors, and to spotlight stories about animals and high-performing teams for donor audiences.
- Excellent analytical skills; data-driven approach to campaign effectiveness; intermediate Excel skills and willingness to “crunch the numbers.” Proficient with statistical reporting, producing management reports, and providing lists.
- Excellent verbal and written skills; ability to write succinct, compelling copy; ability to select high-quality photos that communicate with donors for heartfelt appeals; ability to articulate the Society’s mission and needs to diverse groups.
- Innovative ideas on driving revenue with donor retention and sustaining donors as well as experience with emerging fundraising techniques including mobile and social media
- Proven organizational and planning skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and manage with attention to detail; ability to meet deadlines and experience executing multiple large projects at once.
- Experience managing creative and mail house vendors
- High proficiency with MS Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel. Knowledge and experience using marketing/donor databases and platforms such as Fundraise up, OLX, Raiser’s Edge and Salesforce etc.
- Sound judgment and complete discretion when dealing with confidential information
- Proven experience with the delivery of excellent customer service
- Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of the San Francisco SPCA including compassion for animals, comfortable in the animal shelter environment, and willing to accommodate animals in the workplace
Salary & Benefits
The starting salary for this position depends on the depth and breadth of experience. The expected range is $135,000 - $150,000. Regular, full-time positions are eligible for a benefits package including:
