The CE R&D Director role provides an outstanding opportunity to lead an innovative team within the Capillary Electrophoresis (CE) business. This role is critical to the success of NPI, sustaining, and teamwork work. The position will report to the General Manager of the CE business and will work cross-functionally with Product Management, Program Management, Legal, Business Development and Operations as well as other R&D groups in the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive incubation, feasibility, and product development efforts for the CE Business.
- Responsibility for product vitality and all programs within the CE business including NPI, Sustaining, and Incubation projects.
- Lead a team of R&D scientists and engineers building prototypes, exploring new concepts and demonstrating feasibility of new technologies.
- Work with business development and legal to review applicability of new technologies, understand patent landscape and assess technology readiness.
- Partner with our Product Management team to identify chemistry/reagent/assay technology solutions that help us add new applications to our CE systems.
- Support PM teams to run partnerships and collaborations that result in new technologies and products.
- Collaborate with external partners to jointly develop instrument, software and reagent products.
- Work together with Operations team to transfer the product into manufacturing.
- Lead all aspects of and run the research staff, including hiring, performance management, training and professional development.
- Provide strategic direction and guidance to Scientists, Research Associates and Engineers in their daily experiments and troubleshooting.
- Guide team in matrix environment. Critically analyze complex data, interpret and integrate experiment results with project objectives.
- Maintain complete and thorough documentation in accordance with relevant standards to support patent application and defense as well as other international standards (e.g., ISO compliance, GLP/GMP requirements, etc.)
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in a Scientific or Engineering field
- 10+ years of experience managing senior scientists, engineers, and software personnel.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $192,100.00–$280,000.00. This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
