JOB SUMMARY
The Quality Assurance team within Digital is responsible for the delivery of large, high-impact initiatives, projects, enhancements, and maintenance for branded digital assets on the web, mobile app, and supporting platforms. This manager position will be a hands-on role and is expected to work with the Sr. QE manager to define and deliver the automation strategy, the automation framework, and champion an Automation First mindset across the Digital organization. They will partner with other Automation managers and Digital QA managers to understand individual business area and product priorities, working with IT and manual QA to create a balance between maximizing work output and minimizing risk. This position supports automation development and execution throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to address planned, immediate, and unexpected needs. This role is expected to provide key updates on the automation development and execution to QE Leadership for all releases and key milestones. This manager role will also be responsible for defining and championing automation metrics and establishing dashboards for visibility. Additionally, they will work with vendor resources across Digital channels in an onshore and offshore model. The manager role will be responsible for bringing new automation ideas to life, optimizing test executions, and shortening testing cycles in a fast-paced development environment.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related field OR equivalent total years of experience or certification
- 6+ years of experience in Test Automation, QA or IT operations using open source and enterprise technologies for Mobile (iOS and Android), Web and Non-UI (API) automation projects using both coded and codeless automation frameworks
- Proven track record of progressing in QA career with hands-on experience in test automation
- Hands-on experience leading and managing a team of automation SDETs to deliver for multiple projects concurrently
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results under challenging conditions, particularly when faced with complexity and ambiguity.
- Must possess critical thinking and analytical skills in addition to great interpersonal and communication skills
- Technical aptitude and ability to learn new software solutions and testing concepts with an Automation First mindset
- Working in a fast-paced, Agile/Scrum engineering environment delivering incremental software with high quality
- Experience leading and supporting automation development and execution in an Agile development model.
- SAFe Agile experience is a plus

Maintaining Goals
- Add/Enhance and maintain the Digital QA automation strategy across Digital channels
- Implement strategies, development guidelines and standards for both coding based Automation and codeless Automation practices for assigned projects
- Ability to assist teams with hands-on troubleshooting for automation developed script errors, and managing Git Pull and Push PRs
- Define, document and develop test scripts using BDD and Selenium Java and related technologies
- Support delivery to maximize releases through automation in support of Digital revenue and Room Night goals.
- Assist leadership in taking technical decisions around current and future automation frameworks
- Maximize code coverage through automation to support quality releases across the digital channels.
- Partner with other QA leaders to identify gaps, opportunities, and resource needs to maximize the automation coverage.
- Document project progress accurately and submit reports in a timely manner, ensuring delivery deadlines are met.
- Work with geographically dispersed teams while being sensitive to all cultures and norms
Managing Work, Projects, and Policies
- Monitor and adhere to the Automation Test Strategy and play a pivotal role in the implementation of Automation efforts across the enterprise
- Ensure Test artifacts are consistent and of high quality
- Balance maximizing automation coverage by minimizing risk so that key business projects have a clear path to production with very low risk from lesser priority projects
- Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment for adequate automation support ultimately leading to high quality releases
- Manage effective communication and escalations in a timely manner as needed for reducing delivery risks
- Work with key IT stakeholders to map dependencies and ensure alignment of dependent infrastructure impacts to Automation efforts
- Support key Channel product development efforts as needed.
- Experience developing, maintaining, and communicating complex processes to support Digital Automation strategy, next generation automation technologies and roadmaps.
- Hands-On experience in maintaining and reusing existing frameworks which were created and developed by other automation teams within the Digital organization
- Manage risks for Automation Test Data needs related to automation execution plans for production releases
- Responsible for Planning, Estimating and Projecting automation effort estimations for new projects and initiatives
System and Tools
- Hands-On working knowledge and practical use of Automation tools like Java, Selenium, Appium, Mobile app simulators, Charles trace, Source tree, Xcode.
- Hands-On working knowledge and hands on use of tools like Jira, Confluence, Service Now, Browser Stack (for both Web and Mobile) in an agile development environment
- In-depth knowledge of Jenkins, GitHub, Bit Bucket and other DevOps tools like Harness used for CI/CD capabilities.
- Knowledge of WebGL, React, AWS solutions architecture, HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
- Ability to Configure/Update and leverage parallels for executions in Browserstack and in Jenkins / Harness.
Additional Responsibilities
- Utilize best practices and uphold a culture that is committed to quality, test-driven development and repeatable processes through automation and infrastructure
- Adhere to all established processes to deliver automation testing deliverables to support production releases
- Experience with virtualized products/services/solutions is a plus
- Improve or maintain the formal QA processes, procedures, and best practices to ensure efficient, effective testing for both enhancement and regression testing
- Define quality metrics, gather and analyze data to implement process improvements based on analysis results
- Develop, review and deliver Integration and Regression test plans to certify the product quality before production releases
- Communicate within and across teams about the automation test progress during the path to production testing
- Perform other duties assigned by Digital QA leadership
- Maintain vendor relations. Connect with the vendor resources often to review the work and ensure it is as per the Marriott standards
- Monitor attendance for vendor resources to ensure billing and timesheets accuracy
- Knowledge of test automation concepts such as keyword/Behavioral driven framework, extensive codeless automation frameworks and tools is also a plus
