Main Purpose of Job
This position serves as the Director of Prevention and Promotion in the MDH Behavioral Health Administration. This division’s purpose is the prevention of behavioral health related problems through public and behavioral health best- and evidence-based practices, strategies, and interventions. Through partnerships with community-based organizations and local behavioral health authorities, project areas are provided throughout the state. Programs and practices are categorized into three classifications: universal, selective, and indicated. The focus of this Division is on multiple interventions that encompass all three classifications: promotion of mental health services and resources, prevention of substance use, prevention of suicide, harm reduction services for individuals who use drugs, providing public awareness to combat the stigma of behavioral health related disorders and direct people to resources and care, providing peer support services, including supporting and expanding the peer workforce, providing linkages to behavioral health and other supportive services for veterans, services members, and their families, and by providing problem gambling prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, six years of professional experience in public or behavioral health services to include experience working across the behavioral health continuum of care inclusive of service provision and implementation, program assessment and evaluation and policy development, and two years of supervisor or managerial experience. Candidates may substitute additional professional experience working in behavioral health services (substance use, peer recovery, gambling, suicide prevention, veteran's, etc.) in a community, state or federal landscape for the bachelor's degree requirement at the rate of 1 year of experience for 30 credit hours.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred candidates should possess 5-8 years of management experience leading large-scale projects and teams.
