The Grant Manager position involves providing analytical, financial and training activities in support of contract and grant proposal development, grant-writing, funding, administration, and budget development. Activities may include pre-award proposal initiatives, management of funds post-award, and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsors. Involves activities associated with analyzing research funding trends and sources, forecasting, planning, and managing of research portfolios by performing some or all of the following: coordinating, identifying, developing and/or presenting proposals, contracts and other agreements; reviewing proposals to ensure institutional compliance and program success; negotiating, administering and monitoring contract and grant awards, including compliance with regulations, terms and conditions; financial management and reporting; and sub-award/subcontract issuance and administration.
This position will join a team of 18 and will independently manage 4-8 complex multi-faceted domestic and international grants at a time, which will be a mixture of private and federally sponsored awards. This position will also have a finance component and support the Finance Team with duties as assigned as well as the other Grant Managers as needed with sub-award management, vendor invoices, and other duties as requested and assigned.
Strong candidates will be team players with good communication skills and attention to detail, experience working with international projects funded through federal and non-federal grants and contracts - preferably in an academic setting, with excellent time management, problem solving skills, and willingness and ability to be flexible and adjust to new projects and priorities as they arise. This is a full time, career position, reporting to a Research Administrator IV on the IGHS Grant Management Team.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
- 3+ years directly relevant experience
- Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment
- Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
- Demonstrated competence in the use of excel and database software in financial analysis, customized reporting, fiscal management and financial reports as well as data analysis and visualization
- Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and attention to detail; management of a significant volume of transactions
- Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration
- Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner both in writing and verbally
- Experience with federal and private sponsors regulations and compliance, for example US Government, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Global Fund
- Knowledge of UCSF accounting systems; MyExpense (Concur), UCPath, MyReports and PeopleSoft
- Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles. Ability to interpret and apply policies and/or procedures, such as federal, state and university policies and procedures. Must also demonstrate an understanding of OMB Circular A-2 and Cost Accounting Standards
- Previous experience working in academic or nonprofit environments; experience working with international public health projects
- Ability to function as a member of a team and adapt to changing priorities. Proven interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; customer service orientation; critical thinking; attention to detail; ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment, organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Development, Financial Management or Accounting
- Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles. Must also demonstrate an understanding of OMB Circular A-2 and Cost Accounting Standards

- Finance-related certification
