Senior Property Accountant
Our client, a prominent company in the real estate and investment sector, is seeking a Senior Property Accountant. This role requires 3 days in the office at San Francisco Bay Area. The position involves supporting the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, and providing information for tax accountants and auditors. Responsibilities:
Daily/Weekly:
- Conduct project-level cash analysis.
- Review expenditures in NEXUS (AP system) and MRI (GL system).
- Respond to internal and external inquiries.
- Perform vendor callbacks to verify updates to banking information.
Monthly:
- Ensure accounting transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare calculations of various fees due to the company and third parties.
- Record month-end journal entries and facilitate the closing process.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts (cash, AP, AR, etc.).
- Maintain the general ledger and update supporting schedules and workbooks.
- Ensure timely processing of debt service payments.
- Assist Asset Managers with preparing and submitting draw requests to lenders.
Quarterly:
- Participate in and assist with the quarter-end close process.
- Help prepare quarterly financial statements and investor reports.
- Assist with ad hoc reports for Asset Management and lenders.
Annually:
- Prepare financial/workpaper support for auditors.
- Gather information for financial statement preparation and footnote disclosure for annual audits.
- Prepare financial packages for tax accountants and review partnership tax returns.
- Respond to tax and audit inquiries.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Work directly with the Accounting Manager and Property Controller on ad hoc projects.
- Assist in accounting analysis on acquisitions and dispositions.
- Involved with JV partners and communications.
- Understand and interpret specific legal agreements (LP Agreements, LLC Agreements, Loan Agreements).
- Maintain confidentiality of all company procedures.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Comply with all company training requirements.
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Regular attendance is essential.
- Maintain a courteous, helpful, and professional attitude.
- Perform other duties as assigned in a positive and helpful manner.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting with a minimum of 3-5 years of accounting work experience. Experience in real estate, private equity, construction, and development is strongly preferred.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
- System knowledge: MRI, Nexus, Excel (V-Lookups, Pivot Tables). MRI experience is highly preferred.
- Working knowledge of partnership/fund accounting concepts.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create a positive work environment for the team.
- Highly organized, flexible, and strong follow-through.
- Self-starter, highly motivated, deadline and detail-oriented, with a sense of urgency.
- Proactive, resourceful, efficient with strong decision-making skills; works independently and exercises good judgment.
- Enjoys the challenges of supporting a medium-sized department.
- Expert-level written and verbal communication skills; must possess high-level professionalism and strong communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through on issues in a timely manner.
- Ability to interact with staff at all levels and personality types in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure.
- Detail-oriented, quick learner, and problem-solver with an active, curious intellect.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for 75% of the time working on a computer and attending virtual meetings.
- Occasionally move about the office to access file cabinets, office technology, and attend meetings.
Compensation:
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $110K - $120K per year.
