The executive director is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the company by working with the board of directors and the executive management team to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- This position is responsible for the implementation of strategic goals and objectives of the organization.
- With the chair, enable the Board to fulfill its governance function.
- To give direction and leadership toward the achievement of the organization's philosophy, mission, strategy, and its annual goals and objectives.
Board of Directors Duties:
- Insure board of directors receive appropriate information (board packets, supplements, budgets, etc.) in a complete and timely manner.
- Serve as agent for Board in all manners.
- Represent board in a positive manner at all times.
- Communicate readily with board on programmatic, agency, interpersonal, and other significant information.
Operational Support:
- Supports operations and administration of Board by advising and informing Board members, interfacing between Board and staff, and supporting Board's evaluation of executive director.
Communication:
- Staff member stays in contact with other essential staff members through meetings, staffing, and telecommunications.
- Coordinates inter-division activities and serves as mediator.
- Responsible for communicating and guiding current and future activities as they relate to organization with all key staff members.
Compliance:
- Position ensures that personnel policies and procedures are adhered to, and that subordinate supervisors are adhering to personnel policies and procedures.
- Position must adhere to employee grievance, incident reporting, client grievance, and abuse/neglect/confidentiality reporting procedures.
- Position ensures compliance for contracts administered by agency.
- Communicates with all community members such as clients, general public, and other service providers in a friendly, cooperative and professional manner.
- Acts as a corporate customer service representative in all organization-related capacities.
- Position ensures that business office activities; i.e. accounting, fiscal reporting, internal controls, etc. are adhered to.
Supervisory:
- Position will ensure that subordinates receive personnel appraisals on schedule and in a timely manner.
- Position provides immediate feedback to subordinates in all areas of the job. Always gives an answer to a problem.
- Position provides instruction and teaches subordinates to improve areas not up to standard.
- Position treats all subordinates fairly and objectively.
- Position provides comprehensive and objective documentation on employee positive performance incentives.
- Position is responsible for ensuring that subordinates are instructed on goals, objectives and missions of projects they are involved with.
- Ensures subordinates have received appropriate and required training.
- Follows hiring procedures including posting requirements, screenings, selection process, and background investigations. Effectively manages the human resources for the organization.
Budgeting:
- Position is responsible for assisting staff in developing budgets.
- Position is responsible for following budget and ensuring major or multiple minor changes are revised, justified and approved by all responsible parties.
- Position is responsible for ensuring that purchasing, contract and employee expense procedures are followed.
Programmatic Development:
- Position is responsible for ensuring that program development meets mission statement of agency and that program development and design fits compatibly with other components of organization.
- Position assists in grant writing activities.
- Position is responsible for developing and coordinating long-term plans for agency.
- Position is responsible for ensuring that administrative controls and initiatives are developed and followed; i.e. merit systems, personnel, investigations, etc.
Fundraising:
Oversees fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resources requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals and administrating fundraising records and documentation.
Minimum Requirements:
- Requires a valid Texas Drivers License, appropriate driving record and auto liability insurance that meets the minimum required by the state of Texas.
- Requires at a minimum a Bachelors Degree from an accredited University.
- Five years in the Human Service field or 5 years in public management.
- Grant writing/program design and development/budget preparation preferred.
