Job Title: Locum Psychiatrist (ST3+)

Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Locum Psychiatrist (ST3+) to join our dynamic Mental Health team. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist and provide high-quality psychiatric care for patients across various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and community mental health services.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, and social workers, and will play a key role in assessing, diagnosing, and managing psychiatric disorders in line with NHS guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Care
- Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with a wide range of mental health disorders (e.g., depression, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder).
- Conduct psychiatric assessments, including history-taking, mental state examinations, and risk assessments.
- Develop individualized care plans, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
- Monitor and review patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
- Manage patients in both acute and chronic phases of illness.
- Participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and community visits.
- Liaise with general practitioners (GPs), social care, and other healthcare providers for comprehensive patient care.
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise junior doctors (FY1/FY2 or CT1/CT2) and medical students in clinical settings.
- Provide clinical leadership to nursing staff and allied healthcare professionals.
- Ensure that all patient documentation is accurate and up to date, including clinical notes, discharge summaries, and risk assessments.
On-call Duties
- Participate in the on-call rota, providing out-of-hours psychiatric care and advice to emergency services, general hospital wards, and community services.
Education and Training
- Attend regular educational sessions, including Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities.
- Keep up to date with advancements in psychiatric practice, research, and guidelines.
- Engage in reflective practice and clinical supervision with senior colleagues.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure all work adheres to the highest standards of clinical governance and patient safety.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in line with NHS trust policies and legal requirements.
- Comply with trust policies related to safeguarding, confidentiality, and equality.
Requirements for the Role:
Qualifications:
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
- Completed core psychiatry training (CT1-CT3) or equivalent, progressing to ST3 or higher.
- Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent.
- Section 12 Approved under the Mental Health Act (or willingness to work towards this if not yet approved).
Experience:
- Minimum of two years of experience in psychiatry, including general adult, old age, or child and adolescent psychiatry.
- Experience managing complex psychiatric cases in a variety of settings (inpatient, outpatient, or community).
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Skills:
- Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
- High level of professionalism and commitment to patient-centered care.
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations, particularly in acute mental health crises.

- Evidence of participation in clinical audits and/or quality improvement projects.
- A commitment to continuing education and professional development.
- Willingness to participate in the on-call rota.
- Up-to-date knowledge of NHS mental health policies, including safeguarding and risk management.

Pay: £65.00-£93.35 per hour
Expected hours: 45 – 50 per week
