Calvary Women’s Services offers housing, health, education, and employment programs that empower homeless women in Washington, DC, to transform their lives. Our services ensure women have access to the proper trauma- informed healthcare and educational support they need to take positive steps toward independence. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Programs (Director) leads Calvary’s efforts to provide the highest quality housing and comprehensive support services to homeless women. In collaboration with the CEO, the Director, oversees a portfolio of programs and services, provides supervision, coaching and professional development to program staff, and evaluates the effectiveness of programs across multiple sites.
The Director is responsible for supervising and providing leadership for a team of Case Managers, Senior Manager of Education and Programs, and Workforce Development Manager. As a member of the leadership team, the Director will also work alongside the CEO and other leaders to promote a strong organizational culture, develop and drive the organization’s strategic work plans, and represent the organization within the community.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned program leader with a growth-mindset and passion for building, developing, and empowering teams. Candidates with demonstrated track records of positive outcomes working with underserved communities preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Management
- Provides oversight to programs and services including the Step Up DC employment program, LEAP educational program, and Meal Program
- Provides leadership to the implementation of housing and services including hiring and training of program staff, oversight of client referrals and intakes, coordination of on-site programs and services
- Coordinate with the leadership team to develop and manage work plans that tie to the strategic plan and goals
- Manages internal communications and collaboration within the program staff and consultant team, and works closely with the COO to coordinate between operations and program staff
- Responsible for developing, maintaining and implementing policies and procedures that guide programs and services for clients
- With the COO, supports staff implementation of daily operations including evening and weekend services and daily meal services
- Develops and manages program budgets in coordination with the Director of Finance and Administration
- Ensures compliance with government contracts and regulations within case management and programs, and maintains client records in accordance with government requirements and social work standards
- Identifies best practices and improves internal systems with an eye toward future needs and budget realities
Team Leadership and Supervision
- Supervises and supports the Case Management team including hiring, training and coaching Case Managers who staff multiple program sites
- Supervises and supports the Senior Manager of Education and Programs and the Workforce Development Manager
- Ensures Case Managers and all program staff utilize a strengths-based, trauma-informed care model
- Lead performance management and accountability efforts for the program team by promoting and enforcing the use of performance and process tracking
- Oversees hiring and provides support for contracted consultants, including a therapist, a nurse practitioner, a CAC facilitator for the Relapse Prevention Group, and Chef
Data Management, Reporting & Analysis
- Uses data to inform and instruct program evaluation, program development and strategic planning
- Works with the case management team to capture all client data (HMIS and Apricot)
- Conducts monthly data review to ensure quality and consistency
- Responsible for reporting all programmatic outcomes and metrics to funders, Board of Directors and other stakeholders across the organization
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Passion for Calvary’s mission and demonstrated commitment to improving outcomes for underserved communities
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred
- 7+ years program leadership experience in social services, and/or nonprofit environments with a track record of providing integrated trauma-informed care
- Strong experience supervising, mentoring and coaching teams with a proven ability to build a strong culture of trust, accountability and collaboration
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain positive and collaborative working relations across teams and with residents
- Experience in residential settings with demonstrated track record of leading sustainable programmatic growth strongly preferred
- Highly motivated, self-starter, results-oriented, and a team player
- Successful track record in setting priorities; outstanding planning, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills
- Strong ability to creatively use resources and find solutions to unique problems
- Possess strong cultural competence including communication ability with a diverse population
- Strong systems thinker with the ability to use data to evaluate program outcomes and effectiveness
