Atrium Health’s Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute is currently seeking a vascular surgeon or vascular medicine specialist with primary interest in venous disease to join our growing practice in the Greater Charlotte Region, with focus at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) and Atrium Health - Pineville. This position is to include the management of both superficial and deep venous disease to provide quality care to the patients we serve in their respective communities. Our team includes 11 vascular surgeons throughout the system with a dedicated venous and lymphedema clinic under the direction of Dr. Erin Murphy, located in South Charlotte. Additionally, we have a total of 16 advanced practice providers supporting the division. We have fully equipped ICAVL accredited vascular sites (n=8) with a total of 17 vascular technologists as well.
Practice Highlights:
CMC currently has two hybrid rooms and a brand-new Cath lab for vascular surgery; in addition, at CMC there are two brand new rooms that offer room for growth and the ability to perform saphenous ablation and phlebectomy. At Pineville we have one full Cath lab that will soon have brand new imaging. The venous center is located in South Charlotte and will be moving to a newly renovated ambulatory and procedural office on the Atrium Health – Pineville campus in early 2024. Currently, all venous procedures are performed in South Charlotte as well as in our Northern practice locations in Mooresville and Concord, NC. All venous procedures are currently offered including but not limited to:
- IVC and iliac vein reconstruction with both endovascular as well as hybrid and open reconstructions
- Superficial venous ablations and phlebectomy
- DVT both acute and chronic
- Pelvic venous congestion
- Nutcracker Syndrome
- Pulmonary Embolism
This position is specific for those fully interested in the management of venous disease with no need for an arterial practice. Academic professorship at Wake Forest University School of Medicine is offered along with full access to all that the institution provides.
About the practice:
The SHVI CMC Main campus is a 1000-bed facility located in downtown Charlotte, NC – with very easy access to Uptown Charlotte, shopping, restaurants, and other activities, as well as several other growing suburban and urban areas to live. The Pineville location is only 8 miles from CMC, with 450 beds, a new Cath lab and located in the desirable South Charlotte region. Cabarrus is located 25 miles north and is a 650-bed hospital. Each hospital has an associated ambulatory clinic with close proximity to the hospital. This position itself is for the Southern Location.
A new hospital on the CMC campus is under construction, slated to open in 2027 with the latest Cath lab imaging and technologies available. Wake Forest University Medical School, Charlotte is currently under construction with the first class enrolling in 2024.
Qualified candidates should be:
- Board Eligible/Board Certified in Vascular Surgery or Vascular Medicine with interventional privileges.

- POTS

- DVT both chronic and open
