VP of Engineering
- Location requirements: 60% in-person; Tacoma, WA; Up to 10% travel to conferences, trade shows, and/or customer sites as needed.

- Compensation: $110K to $150K + stock options & standard company benefits

We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary VP of Engineering to lead our technical team through the next phase of growth and innovation. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will play a pivotal role in driving the development and commercialization of our PFAS destruction technology. You will be responsible for managing existing leaders within Aquagga’s engineering team, providing technical mentorship and empathetic leadership to the entire engineering team. You will also help set our technical vision as we establish and expand our manufacturing capability. The ideal candidate will have experience in an engineering management role at a Series A or more mature startup, demonstrated leadership skills, and experience with scaling-up manufacturing capabilities. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Technical Leadership: Provide strategic direction and oversight for all engineering activities, including research, design, development, and implementation of our technology.
- Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence. Use expert judgment to inform engineering priorities.
- Technology Development: Drive the advancement of our PFAS destruction technology into the manufacturing and delivery phase, ensuring alignment with business goals and regulatory requirements.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Effectively collaborate and facilitate efficient communication between engineering, operations, business development, and project delivery. Stay abreast of industry and regulatory trends informing product design.
- Scale-up and Optimization: Lead efforts in scaling up technology processes, optimizing performance, and ensuring reliability and efficiency in manufacturing and deployment.
- Quality and Compliance: Establish and maintain rigorous quality standards and compliance protocols to meet industry regulations and customer expectations.
- Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage the engineering budget, allocate resources effectively, and optimize cost efficiencies while maintaining high standards of performance.
Are you the person we need?
“Must-have” Qualifications:
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering leadership roles within the water treatment, chemical processing, environmental technology, or industrial hardware product development industries.
- Technical Expertise: Strong background in chemical engineering, process development, complex manufacturing and/or environmental technologies.
- Leadership Skills: Proven track record of building and leading high-performing engineering teams. Demonstrated ability to facilitate trade-off decisions, align resources against conflicting priorities, and empower leaders to own delivery
- Strategic Vision: Ability to think strategically, anticipate future trends, and develop technology roadmaps aligned with business objectives. Demonstrated experience in setting high level vision that enables autonomy and allows a team to deliver the right results.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Willingness to travel as needed, up to 10%
“Nice-to-have” Qualifications:
- Success in startups and/or scaling technologies from prototype to commercialization.
- Understanding of existing and emerging technologies for PFAS treatment and disposal
- Experience engaging and utilizing third-party vendors in the manufacturing lifecycle
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure
- Mechanical design background in reactors, boilers, high-temp/high pressure systems
- Experience with PFAS remediation technologies is a significant advantage.
