Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in business or business-related field. Two (2) years of full-time financial, accounting, banking and/or marketing experience. Highly proficient in word processing, spreadsheet management, electronic messaging and internet applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Apps, etc.). Bilingual in Spanish.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in business or related field. Two (2) years of full-time experience in the private or public assistance environment. Knowledge of LI business climate, Federal business assistance programs and/or New York State business assistance programs. Previously owned a small business. Experience with NYS Small Business Development Centers, Minority Women Owned or Veteran Owned Business Assistance experience.
Brief Description of Duties:
At the Small Business Development Center, the Bilingual Business Advisor provides a comprehensive range of small business-based assistance including one-to-one client counseling in the area of business plan development. The selected candidate will have outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills. They will be expected to work successfully both independently and as part of a team. The incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Provide a comprehensive range of bilingual small business based assistance including one-to-one client counseling in the area of business plan development; analyze, prepare and structure financial statements such as cash flow projections, income statements and balance sheets; provide assistance in automated and manual record keeping systems and assist clients with market related issues such as social media advertising, market surveys, analyzing market research data and other related areas. Counseling sessions may be conducted in person, via telephone, zoom or at a satellite office.
- Implement and participate in learning sessions sponsored by the SBDC and provide follow-up counseling services as necessary to attendees. Sessions are in many forms including classroom situations, single and multi-day conferences where relevant topics are discussed in open forums and in other public situations.
- Gather written feedback from clients who have received assistance for the purposes of program refinement and promotion. Perform clearing house services gathering information from clients and other interested individuals and refer individuals to outside providers (lawyers, tax accountants, etc.) when helpful.
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive network of professional contacts for referral purposes. Seek out small business bankers and non-traditional lenders for client referrals and workshop sponsorship opportunities.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
