Position: Director, Commercial Legal
Location: San Leandro, CA – Hybrid (60% office)

Position Overview
The Director, Commercial Legal will lead and inspire a team of legal professionals to deliver proactive, strategic legal support that drives the Americas Sales region toward its business objectives. Providing support and advice on highly strategic and/or large, complex deals.
Principal Accountabilities
- Work strategically with the Americas Sales market leaders and team to determine and operationalize appropriate legal support to the Americas Sales function, both on direct and indirect deals.
- Provide support and advice on highly strategic or large, complex deals.
- Work closely with the Indirect Sales Legal team to ensure the Region’s Indirect sales opportunities are being supported by Legal to deliver against target.
- Manage overall risk profile of the Region by advising and making risk-based decisions quickly and directly with the Americas Sales team and VP Legal Sales.
- Identify & analyze critical business issues & apply legal expertise to deliver solutions.
- Work pro-actively and positively with the Contract Management team to deliver optimized sales solutions.
- Provide ideas and solutions to the VP Legal Sales to improve the efficiency of the function and the Company.
- Support major regional process improvements.
- Supervise and mentor a team of legal professionals. Provide guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Highly experienced and competent commercial lawyer in a Software business.
- Proven success of working with sales leaders to manage and negotiate strategic and complex sales deals.
- Proven ability to make complex commercial risk-based decisions quickly and effectively.
- Ability to identify, analyze and form their own opinion on various legal issues and matters and offer practical and pragmatic advice to the business.
- Strong attention to detail and high-level drafting and negotiation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong influencing skills and commercially minded.
- Strong team player.
- Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Proven experience of working with the business and peer group/team members to continually improve standards and processes in a vibrant, fast-growing, and strongly customer-oriented business environment.
- Leadership and team development experience preferred but not required.
- Experience negotiating public sector contracts preferred but not required.
- Understanding of the LATAM legal markets preferred but not required.
Basic Requirements
- Minimum of 7+ years of legal experience.
- Minimum of 3+ years contract experience.
- Law degree and four-year college degree required.
Salary Range: $207,400.00 - $345,800.00
This pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation that the position offers, and final compensation can vary within the range depending on work location, job experience, skills, and relevant educational attainment and/or training.
