Job Description Summary:
PayPal's Corporate Tax Department is seeking a State and Local Tax Manager to join its team. This position will work collaboratively with other members of the team, as well as PayPal's broader tax department, finance org, and other divisions of the Company, to support all aspects of state and local income tax compliance, reporting and planning. Job Description:
As the State and Local Tax Manager, you will be part of PayPal’s Global Tax Reporting & Compliance Team, reporting to the State and Local Income Tax Senior Manager. In this role, you will be involved in the preparation, review, and strategic analysis of state and local tax matters, working across teams within the Company to ensure compliance and contribute to planning initiatives. Key responsibilities:
- Organize data and review state tax returns and workpapers for apportionment and state modifications
- Prepare quarterly and annual state income tax provision calculations
- Analyze and prepare computations associated with uncertain tax positions
- Prepare state extensions and estimated tax payments
- Partner with outside service providers to track and address state notices in a timely manner
- Partner with audit controversy team on state tax audits and/or amended return filings
- Analyze state tax consequences of new business initiatives and model out different tax planning scenarios
- Conduct tax research, and monitor/analyze/implement legislative updates and case law decisions affecting state and local taxes
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within tax procedures
- Identify, research and model state tax planning strategies, and support the business on state tax impacts of Company initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, and structural changes
- Provide ad hoc support to other tax department/ wider finance team efforts
Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Accounting or Finance equivalent; CPA and/or Master’s in Taxation preferred
- 5+ years of state income tax compliance and accounting experience for publicly held multinational corporations
- Excellent tax technical and research skills
- Ability to collaborate as part of a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively relate state income tax issues across the organization, including non-tax personnel
- Self-motivated, resourceful and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent prioritization, multi-tasking and organizational skills
- Experience with Corptax and SAP a plus
