The New Mexico Veterans Healthcare System is seeking a full-time board eligible Gastroenterology Physician to join our Team to help transform how we provide healthcare in times of great need (Vacancy #: CBSX-12145795-23-AH). Duties

GI Physician Duties include:
- Perform initial histories and physical examinations on outpatients using CVT technology and/or face-to-face visits.
- Provide ongoing outpatient care for assigned patients.
- Screen outpatients to determine the need for further care.
- Prescribe medications within defined scope of practice.
- Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiogram.
- Review need for and orders health promotion and disease prevention measures.
- Initiate, respond to and expediate requests for consultations, special tests and studies.
- Provide education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
- Attend staff meetings, team meetings, some committee meetings, and complete some peer review evaluations.
- Provide education and guidance to Medical Residents in managing medical care to Veterans in the outpatient setting.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Staff Gastroenterologists provide a broad range of Gastroenterology and Hepatology services to Veterans. Each Gastroenterologist functions as a cooperative and collegial team member with the entire staff. The incumbent will share responsibility for inpatient teaching rounds, inpatient consultation, and outpatient clinic. The Staff Gastroenterologist will perform diagnostic studies and therapeutic procedures using endoscopes to see internal organs. Access, stabilize, and determine the disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy.
The Gastroenterologist in this position will also function as support to the inpatient Services through consultations and to the Primary Care and Urgent Care Providers via phone, e-consults and outpatient consults. He/She will provide consultation and follow-up through Gastroenterology Virtual Telehealth (CVT) Clinic and communicate with patients directly by phone or through secure messaging via My HealtheVet.
The Faculty Gastroenterologist will interact through didactic teaching, demonstration, and observation of performance by Medical Residents and Fellows. The Faculty Gastroenterologist will provide knowledge and performance feedback via discussions and written evaluations.
Applicants must be academically qualified for a position at the University of New Mexico Health Science Center.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 08:00 AM - 04:30 PM

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
