Reporting to the Executive Director, Corporate Supply Chain Management, the Executive Director, Logistics is responsible for the development and management of agile, efficient and cost-effective integrated distribution systems and technologies throughout Yale New Haven Health System meeting organizational needs and goals. Responsible for the strategic vision, operational mission, policies and procedures, human resource development, performance management and measurement, and quality assurance of the logistics and distribution operations at delivery network sites, the ROC warehousing center and ambulatory sites across the system. Responsible for service delivery and management of $42M in inventory throughout the delivery networks. The Executive Director, Logistics interacts with executive and senior leadership, department directors, managers, outside business customers, and internal customers across the Health System. Responsible for identifying and implementing industry best practices that will support YNHHS efforts to be considered a best-in-class supply chain organization both within and outside the health care industry. Primary contact and management over outside distributor including warehouse management. External contact includes Group Purchasing Organization, consultants, and vendors.
Responsibilities
1. Responsible for developing a best-in-class logistics infrastructure in support of YNHH healthcare needs from warehousing to customer service.
2. Manages department labor force, employee development (corrective action, performance evaluations, etc.) and operational budget.
3. Provides leadership and strategic direction to Integration and Change Management Director and Senior Site Managers, including accountability for the continued development of system practices, policies, processes, procedures, and implementation efforts.
4. Responsible for the management of YNHH's warehouse management logistics for the appropriate delivery of supplies to the YNHHS hospitals, clinics and other entities that leverage Supply Chain distribution services.
5. Directs the safeguarding of the warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols. Ensures that appropriate inventory management best practices are being implemented and maintained.
6. Responsible for inventory technology systems optimization, standardization and accuracy.
7. Ensures appropriate demand management and planning is in place across all delivery networks through a data-driven approach.
8. Directs the monitoring and reporting of daily/weekly/monthly supply chain operating performance including quality and productivity metrics, and ensures appropriate actions are taken.
9. Directs management of supply chain performance improvement efforts and coordinates with data analytics, strategic sourcing and value analysis teams within Corporate Supply Chain.
10. Ensures a customer service focus including driving towards common goals while demonstrating high value.
11. Plans, coordinates and administers the financial, administrative and technical operations of logistics and exercises budget responsibilities for that area of supply chain.
12. Supports executive Supply Chain leadership in annual budgeting planning, development of strategic goals/KPIs. Monitors department performance to goals, budget and other strategic objectives.
13. In collaboration with Finance, plans, coordinates and administers logistics protocols.
14. Partners with Information Technology and Finance teams to create efficiencies.
15. Responsible for ensuring maximum value that supports optimization of YNHH's trade partners including its GPO, manufacturers and distributors across all System entities.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Masters Degree in Business, Health Administration, Engineering or related field preferred.
Bachelor's Degree in business administration, health services or related field required.
EXPERIENCE
Logistics leader with a minimum of ten years of experience in all facets of healthcare logistics at the management level including receiving, inventory, warehousing, demand planning and process improvement. Strong management experience is required; experience managing a large number of staff. Experience in operations in a clinical setting, continuous improvement experience and training, and experience developing and utilizing metrics and management techniques to drive improvement. Experience in a large multi-facility organization strongly preferred with ability to:
- Focus on key risk areas to become more proactive in inventory management processes and communication to meet customer needs
- Monitor logistical operations within acute, non-acute locations as well as warehouses.
- Develop a coordinated operations infrastructure to support logistics team/customers
- Maintain visibility into inventory levels and manage costs across the network through an analytical/data-driven approach
LICENSURE
Masters degree in healthcare or business management preferred along with certification in information technology.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Comprehensive understanding of advanced inventory and distribution methods and information systems, including traditional, stockless, JIT, consignment, etc. Excellent program management skills, specifically in developing and maintaining system programs. Good communication and presentation skills at all levels of organization. Experienced in facilitating multi-disciplinary groups. Firm grasp of basic principles of finance, capital asset management, analysis and cost reporting. Good team building, task force development and problem analysis and resolution skills. Self-motivated with good time management skills. Must be goal oriented and flexible. Excellent supervisory skills with solid understanding of principles of empowerment, motivation and staff development.
