Position Summary
Flagler County BOCC is a leader in UAS operations and is committed to advancing the use of UAS in innovative and impactful ways. Our team is at the forefront of integrating cutting-edge UAS technology to improve operational efficiency, safety, and data collection for public safety and environmental monitoring.
Incumbents in this position have a strong background in UAS operations, with a Part 107 certificate and at least 3 years of hands-on experience. This role involves conducting UAS missions for various applications, including coastal mapping, fire hot-spot detection, plant health assessments, etc., and requires a thorough understanding of UAS regulations, safety protocols, and data collection techniques.
Essential Functions
- Plan and execute UAS flight missions in compliance with FAA regulations and County protocols.
- Operate UAS equipped with advanced imaging technology, including RGB, thermal, and multispectral cameras.
- Perform pre-flight inspections, mission planning, and post-flight data processing.
- Collaborate with project teams to gather and analyze aerial data for specific applications such as environmental monitoring, public safety, and research and development.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, including the use of visual observers and loss of link procedures during Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations.
- Maintain accurate flight logs and documentation for all UAS operations.
- Participate in regular training and certification updates to stay current with UAS technology and regulations.
- Work in various environmental conditions and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Perform other related job duties as assigned.
- During emergencies, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
Additional Job Duties
- Supports the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) when activated as required.

Minimum Qualifications
- Valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate required.
- 3 years of experience in UAS operations preferred.
- Proven experience in operating fixed-wing and/or multi-rotor UAS platforms.
- Proficiency in mission planning software (QBase 3D) and data analysis tools.
- Strong understanding of UAS safety protocols, airspace management, and FAA regulations.
- Experience with RGB, thermal, LiDAR, multispectral imaging technologies is preferred.
- Experience with BVLOS operations and advanced UAS technologies is preferred.
- Experience with FPV aircraft development, operations, and maintenance preferred.
- Background in environmental science, engineering, and/or public safety preferred.
- Familiarity with GIS software and data integration techniques preferred.
- Must possess a valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record.
