Position Description
ACEEE is looking for a self-motivated and detail-oriented person to manage much of the accounting function, including grant billing and tracking, and federal contracting. The accounting manager works within the finance team and interacts on a regular basis with all staff members to ensure accurate tracking of funds. The position is responsible for supervising accounts payable and accounts receivable, tracking various funds, and managing other accounting needs as they arise. The accounting manager will be supervised by and work with the finance director to ensure that all organizational financial operation needs are met. The accounting manager carries out a significant portion of the monthly reporting process.
Functions/Responsibilities
- Oversees grant and contract expenditures and financial reporting
- Oversees federal contract management and billing
- Evaluates contracts and assesses revenue recognition criteria
- Maintains file of grants and contracts agreements
- Oversees staff timesheet process
- Processes monthly labor reclass
- Maintains overall project spending tracking
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Sets up new projects
- Updates conferences and other program budgets
- Coordinates tracking of conference and corporate affiliate receivables
- Supervises and trains finance assistant/associate position
- Works with finance director to prepare for annual audit
- Provides staff with budgets/other tools to assist with procurement
- Performs duties of other positions as necessary, primarily AR/AP processing
Competencies
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and nonprofit accounting
- Highly analytical with strong attention to detail
- Experience with federal contracting
- Team player with ability to delegate effectively
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills, as well as the MS-Office Suite of apps
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Superb organizational skills with ability to handle several ongoing projects with competing deadlines
- Experience with Intacct is a plus
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in the field with at least 5 years of relevant accounting experience
Preferred Start Date: February 2024. This position is based in Washington, DC.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary range is $73,736 – $110,000 and includes ACEEE’s generous benefits package, which includes health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage; a 403(b)-retirement plan; transportation and bike share benefits; 3 weeks of vacation in the first year and 4 weeks thereafter.
