The candidate will work on a multidisciplinary research project combining electrophysiology (patch-clamp and planar lipid bilayer recordings), cryo-electron microscopy, microscale thermophoresis, and animal models of Alzheimer’s disease to study the mitochondria-mediated cell death mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. The candidate will be involved in large-scale protein expression and purification, protein-ligand binding affinity (microscale thermophoresis), electrophysiology, as well as mitochondrial physiology studies (Oroboros instrument), to investigate the structure and function of mitochondrial channels/transporters (ATP synthase, etc.) and their role in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. The selected individual will be expected to assist in developing, designing, and conducting research and will gain the training needed to become an independent researcher in the growing field of mitochondrial physiology.
