About The Role Of Assistant General Counsel
For Premera, Regulatory is not just a control function, but also an enabling one. Regulatory works closely with our Sales and Marketing team to ensure that our offerings can meet the diverse needs of multiple stakeholders. The
Assistant General Counsel provides legal and other consultative services in a variety of matters affecting the company's businesses and operations. In this Director level role, you will be a key player in ensuring that we are helping lead the market while keeping us in alignment with regulatory requirements.
What you’ll do:
- Provide legal analysis and consultative services that help the organization achieve its business objectives. Provide advice in a collaborative manner that is consistent with the company's values and applicable laws and regulations and provides for a practical balancing of legal risks with business results.
- Deal directly with clients and senior level management.
- Maintain knowledge of client's current business activities, as well as an awareness of applicable statutory laws, regulations, and judicial developments.
- Draft and review business agreements, legal filings, and other documents.
- Facilitate coordination with other business units and departments as necessary on complex issues, and effectively communicate relevant guidance to clients.
- Has a strong command of general legal principles and growing expertise in area of specialization and business knowledge.
- Able to identify and evaluate the degree of legal risks associated with an issue.
- Understand regulatory environment affecting business and represent the company's interests externally.
- Work with other business units and departments to address external issues.
- Manage completion of assigned special projects and manages outside counsel.
What you’ll bring:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) (Required)
- Active State License (passed bar in state of residence or work) (Required)
- Seven - ten years of experience in a law firm or corporate setting providing legal services in a progressive legal environment to business clients. (Required)
- Active WA state license (Preferred)
- Note: Obtaining a WA state license within the first twelve months of employment
- Experience managing attorneys. (Preferred)
- Proven excellent negotiation skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with associates at all levels of the organization.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Excellent research and legal analysis skills.
- Strong knowledge of compliance obligations affecting business.
- Has understanding of business and is able to offer solutions which both manage legal risk and help the organization achieve its business objectives.
