We’re searching for a Software Engineer - Onboard Maps
The Software Engineer role at Aurora blends technical excellence and design with deeply contributing to the technical delivery of Aurora’s challenges. The right candidate will utilize polymorphic and highly templated C++ software development skills along with python and cloud-based configured pipelines to deliver solutions which allow for fast construction of the onboard map for the Aurora Driver. The primary consumer of the map will be the Motion Planner system onboard. A deep understanding of typical autonomous vehicle motion planning systems is a plus as the best candidate will be able to interface and align designs with the motion planning team, and deliver solutions that will be used by Motion Planning onboard to direct the Aurora Driver.
In This Role You Will
- Write high-quality, highly testable code in a fast-paced environment, building new solutions in C++ for our most challenging problems
- Dig in to understand and debug some of our toughest problems and propose new innovative solutions and be responsible to drive those solutions to completion
- Contribute technically by participating in software development and contribute to technical design
- Develop, write, and gain alignment on proposed solution designs with peers, cross-team, and leadership
- Report progress to the wider leadership team, identify and resolve roadblocks, and generally deliver successful outcomes on time
- Be metrics driven by setting goals and proving you have delivered them
- Identify opportunities that push the limits of the current system and deliver solutions that move these systems forward
Required Qualifications
- Strong software development skills using modern C++ (11, 14, 17, 20) including heavy use of polymorphism and templates
- Deep knowledge of linear algebra, computational geometry, numerical methods and highly performant code
- Excellent written and verbal communication patterns through code documentation and design/architecture docs
- Strong knowledge of cloud-based pipelines and architectures
- BS or higher degree in robotics, computer science, software development, mathematics, or similar technical field of study
Desirable Qualifications
- Masters/PhD in computer science, robotics, mathematics, or another software related field
- Excellent development skills in Python
- Experience with Lie groups (modern geometry)
- Experience writing and maintaining large bodies of code
- Experience writing and maintaining data structures-based data products while modifying code (i.e. understanding of forward and backward compatibilities)
The base salary range for this position is $144,000 - $216,000. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
