Reporting directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Christ Hospital Health Network (TCHHN), the Chief Information and Digital Transformation Officer (CIDTO) will lead IT and digital planning efforts to achieve business goals by fostering innovation, prioritizing IT and digital initiatives, and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future IT systems across the health enterprise. The Chief Information and Digital Transformation Officer will be responsible for establishing and leading the information and digital vision, strategies, and growth plans within TCHHN through expanding existing relationships, anticipating current and future needs of the organization, developing new business opportunities, and cultivating partner relationships. Serving as TCHHN’s top information architect, they will leverage technology by ensuring that business priorities are achieved using creative and innovative thinking.
Reporting to the CIDTO will be 7 direct reports including the CMIO, CNIO, CTO and the CISO with about 200 total FTEs. They will serve as a member of the top management decision-making group for the organization, accountable for setting the strategic direction, leading efforts to achieve organizational commitments and determine organizational priorities.
The ideal candidate will have progressive IT leadership experience managing in a large team within an integrated healthcare delivery system. Extensive knowledge of data analytics, digital transformation, innovation and AI will be needed to continue to enhance their IT infrastructure and pilot new technologies. Strong business acumen and a passion to drive innovation and strategy will be highly important. As one of the early adopters of EPIC, extensive knowledge of EPIC is highly preferred.
- Serve as a member of the executive team and other teams/committees as assigned; actively participates in the strategic planning process for the enterprise and develops tactical plan for information systems that supports the vision and strategic objectives of TCHHN.
- Lead IT strategic and operational planning to achieve TCHHN goals by fostering innovation, prioritizing IT initiatives, and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of IT systems across the organizations, ensuring adoption of newly emerged technologies in furtherance of the mission.
- Promote and oversee strategic relationships between internal IT resources and external entities, including government, vendors, and partner organizations, and create and manage strategic partnerships with outside technology companies.
- Be responsible for creating more agile and innovative IT environments across TCHHN.
- Provide vision, leadership and direction for managing technology operations. Design, develop, and implement resources and roadmap, policies and procedures, and short and long-range objectives.
- Develop and maintain an appropriate IT organizational structure that supports the needs of the organization and oversee the design of systems to manage and use information to enhance and improve individual and organizational performance in patient care, governance, management, and operations.
- Develop and maintain annual operating and capital budgets, which are consistent with the strategic, information management and financial plans of the enterprise.
- Define and communicate corporate plans, policies, and standards for the organization for acquiring, implementing, and operating IT systems.
- Negotiate, manage, evaluate, and modify IT contracts; review hardware and software acquisition and maintenance contracts; and pursue master agreements to capitalize on economies of scale.
- Improve clinical, operations and financial performance of the organization.
- Provide leadership in the planning, design and technology enablement of new operating models, including new partnerships, joint ventures, accountable care models, etc.
- Develop, implement and evaluate back-up disaster recovery plans, and cyber recovery plans for HTM, information systems and telecommunications systems.
- Recruit, develop, retain, and organize IT staff; motivate, mentor, and build a skilled staff to carry out assigned responsibilities, and provide for training, education, and development to foster the advancements goals of staff members; ensure staff participation in required educational programs and appropriate orientation and training courses, to maintain competency in job skills, knowledge, and equipment.
- Establish standards of performance and CQI programs for the department to ensure the continuous assessment and improvement of its services, along with evaluation procedures to monitor the attainment of these standards.
- Leverage expertise in broad yet relevant areas to translate visions and strategies into clear priorities.
- Develop, coordinate, and participate in multi-faceted training, ensuring that all appropriate staff are knowledgeable about IT services and pertinent policies and standards.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with senior leadership, management staff, nurses, physicians, and support services.
- Keep current with trends and issues in the IT industry, including current technologies and prices, and advise, counsel, and educate executives and management on their competitive or financial impact.
- Communicate potential risks and best practices in an effective manner through education, training, and messaging to all areas of the health system, both inside and outside of IT.
- Continue to mature and monitor a strategic, comprehensive enterprise information security program to ensure that the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of information owned, controlled, or processed by TCHHN.
- A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree in information technology, business, or healthcare administration is highly preferred.
- At least fifteen years of progressively responsible IT experience, preferably within a health system.
- Significant senior-level IT experience that includes strategic planning, project management, budgeting, security, process transformation and innovation in a complex environment.
- Proven track record of producing operational and financial results and building a strong team culture within IT organizations and creating a user-focused environment of customer service and collegial support.
- Exhibits a keen understanding of business operations and aligning strategies with organizational objectives.
- Strong understanding of data center and network operations, package software integration, information security, data analytics and management of thousands of distributed devices.
- A working knowledge of cloud technologies, software as a service, and technical architecture (application, infrastructure, data, security).
- A strong business acumen with experience in transforming business models, negotiating contracts, and achieving financial results.
- Proven reputation for discretion, integrity, sound judgment, and responsiveness.
