Job Summary
The Anesthesia Technician’s primary responsibility is to maintain all anesthesia service areas in readiness for use by Anesthesiologist and Anesthetists. The service areas include all operating rooms in the main OR, and Cysto. Additional service areas include but are not limited to: OB, Radiology, MRI, all pre-op and PACU facilities. Responsible for anesthesia equipment and supplies as described in this job description, maintains proper workflow in anesthesia and is accountable to the Manager of Anesthesia Support Services and the OR manager.
The Anesthesia Technician must be able to work independently and may act as a preceptor. Responsible for knowledge of and compliance with all applicable infection control, health, and safety policies and procedures implemented by the department and/or work unit and UCSF Medical Center.
Required Qualifications
- One year experience as Anesthesia Technician
- High school diploma; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic mathematical skills to quickly and accurately add, subtract, divide, and multiply whole numbers and decimals manually by using a calculator.
- Knowledge of medical/surgical and anesthetic terminology.
- Ability to work independently with good organizational skills.
- Good communication skills; ability to be clearly understood, friendly, courteous, and work cooperatively.
- Ability to see well and read in dim light; must be able to distinguish colors on the anesthesia monitors; have manual dexterity to manipulate small equipment including, but not limited to, twisting bulbs, turning dials, changing batteries, and pushing buttons; able to move in confined space, repetitively lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
- The flexibility to work and orient at all UCSF Health locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as an Anesthesia Technician.
