Position Overview
The Chief of Staff plays a critical role in the realization of the CPO’s strategy and achieving its desired effectiveness, cultural attributes and talent objectives, while also being responsible for the daily management of all aspects of the Chief Product Office. Reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer, the CoS serves as the central point across the CPO organization for business management and across State Street more broadly.
The position has been posted to be in Boston, but we would consider other North American or EMEA locations that align with our footprint.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as representative / proxy for the Chief Product Officer on necessary regional and global operating committees.
- Responsible for client engagement—planning, visits, presentations, and takeaways/follow-ups. Includes presenting Product strategy and roadmap to clients and internal forums/Townhalls.
- Primary responsibility for Product strategy and supporting the development of individual Product strategies. Responsible for the central strategy group.
- Engage in business level strategy planning, aligning to the overall strategies of the enterprise.
- Oversight of the CAO function, inclusive of responsibility for monitoring the business investment portfolio - overall management of business IT budget, allocation prioritization, ROI achievement (in coordination with Product leaders), includes managing CPO budget, expenses, tracking and establishing OKRs and creating and managing management metrics/MIS.
- Responsible for the Product Enablement team, consisting of Vendor Lifecycle Management, Product Control, Billing, Project Management, and Process Engineering disciplines. Mandate to find new ways to transform the CPO organization by centralizing other similar functions across the organization.
- Primary responsibility for Product Advocacy team, including strategy and approach across all Products and services. Partner with critical stakeholders (Product leaders, Marketing, Chief Commercial Office) to drive successful execution.
- Support ad hoc, strategic, and tactical efforts by effectively leading projects across multiple areas: risk, business strategy, transformation, and cross-functional initiatives.
- Work with senior management to actively identify and implement process changes.
- Key partner in developing a strong risk and control culture across all regions; all daily activities associated with improved control frameworks.
- Effectively manage a team providing a level of mentorship and professional development while driving quality deliverables and attention to detail to all of the team’s work products.
- Build strong relationships across the Chief Product Officer’s Leadership team and their leads to drive an array of efforts.
- Work with senior leaders in Product, Global Delivery, GTS and CCO to support Product strategy and execution of the strategy.

- Demonstrated skills in problem identification and resolution as well as collaborative problem solving in a complex setting required.
- Results-focused individual with the persistence and patience necessary to work effectively with a variety of internal and external constituents and drive results.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively partner with senior level staff, middle management and support divisions as required to execute strategic objectives.
- Ability to detect emerging trends and encourage and make recommendations for creative change.
- Possess the ability to create executive and board level material. Requires synthesizing and summarizing complicated content.
- Experienced project manager with the ability to handle multiple priorities and lead team efforts as necessary.
- Effective at flexing and pivoting – be comfortable dealing with various changes and adapting to them.
- Networking – ability to find data, insights, and proof points very quickly across the organization with very little direction and synthesize.
- Multi-task – ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, but also be able to focus on the most important deliverables of the moment through proper prioritization.
- Business acumen – ability to pre-empt questions and sense-check the facts and be able to display a general business knowledge across all business lines.
- Ability to self-learn and research topics to provide context to matters.
- CoS or CAO or COO experience for a global organization preferable.
