Works under the direction of the Supervising Mammography Technologist and, administratively, the Practice Administrator; performs all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation and archiving mammography, bone density studies as requested by referring physician and consistent with the facility’s guidelines. The Mammography Technologist will work in a collaborative environment to provide superior patient care. The incumbent will perform all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving of mammography and bone density studies as requested by referring physician and consistent with the facility’s guidelines, and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in the imaging area.
Job Responsibilities:
- Greet and interact with patients, visitors, vendors, and all faculty and staff.
- Perform mammographies and general radiological procedures:
- Review imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Review all questionable orders with the radiologist and, at the radiologist’s discretion, the referring physician.
- Position patient and select appropriate options to ensure best-case imaging based on accepted mammography standard of practice and institutional imaging protocols.
- Observe patient while in the mammography area for change in status and make appropriate intervention or contact primary care givers for instruction.
- Judge diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to radiologist for interpretation.
- Offer detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients and answer questions as appropriate.
- Assist radiologist with stereotactic core biopsies, setting up patient, ensuring all documentation pre- and post-procedure is complete.
- Operate and maintain equipment on a daily basis, maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data: schedule PM, perform QA, maintain records required for and participate in inspections.
- Perform clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing, and archiving of patient records.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalency.
- A minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience.
- NYS License, ARRT and mammography certified.
- Current BLS required.
- Must have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to deescalate stressful situations.
- Must demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Must be able to make sound judgments and execute the appropriate actions based on the needs of patients and knowledge of facility policies and procedures.
- Basic proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email systems, etc.
- Will provide coverage as requested throughout practices as needed (multiple sites and flexible schedule).
Hourly Rate Ranges: $48.34 - $54.81
Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
