Exemplified by our mission: “We Protect Those Who Protect Us”, BAE Systems’ FAST Labs innovates next generation capabilities for the warfighter. Through research programs funded by science and technology R&D organizations within the U.S. Department of Defense, our research and development teams fearlessly innovate and collaborate across the enterprise to create game-changing capabilities. On this team, you’ll have the opportunity to create and develop novel and beyond-next-generation integrated circuits and chipsets across a multitude of microelectronics fabrication technologies in silicon, SiGe, GaN, GaAs, and experimental processes.
The Microelectronics (µE) Product Line performs cutting-edge microelectronics research in its Science & Technology (S&T) area and delivers advanced microelectronic products in its four Development & Production areas that advance mission capabilities across commercial and defense applications. We are seeking an experienced leader to join our µE product line as the Product Line Science Lead (PLSL) to lead the science organization within µE. Reporting directly to the µE Product Line Director, the PLSL will guide the S&T efforts, ensure the scientific activities, and drive technical innovation within µE.
The PLSL is responsible for:
- Ensuring “how” we work is aligned with µE cultural principles of Inclusion, Balance, and Continual Improvement.
- Hiring and functional leadership for all Chief Scientists in the µE product line.
- Streamlining access to the broader technical community within BAE Systems as well as with external organizations such as universities, government labs, and other customers.
- Coordinating scientific mentoring across the µE product line’s scientist staff.
- Enhancing communications among chief scientists associated with the µE product line.
- Providing an additional channel for collaboration and cross-fertilization across FAST Labs product lines and BAE Systems’ business areas.
- Coordinating and administering the µE product line Internal Research and Development (IRAD) program; including approval authority for individual IRADs.
- Periodic review of programs, pursuits, and IRADs with respect to science and technology content.
- The development and maintenance of the product line technology strategy – mapping a path from low TRL concepts to high TRL/MRL transition plans.
This position reports directly to the µE Product Line Director and can be based out of our Burlington, MA; Lexington, MA; or Merrimack, NH facilities, though it will require collaboration with staff across our business areas and facilities in the Northeast. Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it can take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite (> 50% of time) and remotely, or an on-site format.
