Overview
The Pipeline Design Engineer II will join the Pipeline Project Team to design, evaluate and implement efficient pipeline engineering projects to improve safety, reliability and efficiency of operations in various geographical areas located throughout Southern California.
Responsibilities
Design and Engineering
- Lead design development effort with internal and external teams to create pipeline design deliverables at preliminary, 30%, 60%, 90% and 95% design levels.
- Lead in developing pipeline engineering design including process diagram, plans & profiles view, section drawings, isometric design, hydrostatic testing plans, etc.
- Develop detailed engineering parameters including calculations, design basis documents, project execution plans, equipment sizing & selection.
- Review vendor drawings, datasheets, specifications, calculation and other documents.
Project Execution and Coordination
- Review and provide feedback on client and/or Vendor documents, specifications, datasheets, verification of Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) calculations.
- Review and revise design drawings for constructability, design and accuracy at preliminary, 30%, 60%, 90% and 95% design levels.
- Engage clients and various project stakeholders to identify project needs and develop project scoping documents.
- Maintain effective communication and relationships with project team members and clients.
- Participate in interactive planning sessions to establish cost control and scheduling for assigned projects.
- Provide directions to cross-functional teams, including contractors and sub-contractors, ensuring effective project execution and team collaboration.
- Coordinate with survey, land, environmental and other project stakeholders as necessary for developing detailed engineering design.
- Develop and monitor project budgets, schedules, and cost control reports, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
- Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control on all deliverables.
- Manage and coordinate all activities leading to the completion of all assigned tasks/activities and achieve overall project success.
- Prepare and negotiate change orders with client as needed.
- Prepare and issue RFQs, evaluate vendor quotations, conduct bid analysis, and negotiate contracts, change orders, and technical requirements with clients and vendors.
- Train, develop and mentor engineering team including developing training materials.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Experience in gas utilities and/or gas processing design engineering required.
- Planning distribution work experience required.
- B.S. Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or similar field is required.
- Possession of a valid and active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in a relevant field in any US state (CA preferred), or an ability to obtain CA PE license required.
- Technical knowledge and experience in pipeline engineering and design and understanding of applicable regulations and standards.
- Minimum 5-8 years of relevant full-time engineering experience.
- Experience working with utilities in the State of California is preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of design and visualization software such as AutoCAD.
- Advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Office and Teams.
- Ability to develop and update technical documents; safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and logical decision-making ability.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in a professional manner.
- Coachable engineer, eager to learn with self-motivation.
- Plan, direct and review the work of staff engineers.
- Ability and willingness to provide support and training to staff engineers.
- Ability to travel as dictated by project requirements including site visits and in-person meetings.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Have working knowledge in CFR 49 Parts 191, 192 and 195.
- Have familiarity with ASME/ANSI B314 and B31.8 codes and regulations.
- Field Engineering/Construction experience preferred.
- Experience in consulting (or EPC with Design & Engineering capability) is preferred.

Wage Data Per State Requirements
Salary range for this position is $110,000 - $140,000. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
