Overview
The Electrical Engineer II will be responsible for the design, analysis, and management of electrical systems across a variety of projects. This role involves working with overhead and underground electric distribution systems, performing detailed engineering calculations, developing electrical components, and leading both project management and field inspections. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, leadership abilities, and a commitment to ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Engineering
- Perform detailed design and engineering calculations for overhead and underground electric distribution systems, ensuring compliance with client standards and industry regulations (GO95, GO128, NESC, RUS).
- Conduct electrical system analysis (e.g., voltage drop, short circuit, arc-flash, load flow) and specify electrical equipment (15kV/5kV gear, motor control centers, transformers, UPS, etc.).
- Design AC/DC power systems, one-line diagrams, wiring schematics, grounding systems, and lighting plans.
- Develop electrical components for a wide range of facilities, including power plants, industrial, healthcare, commercial, and governmental projects.
- Modify and review production drawings using CAD software to ensure accuracy.
Instrumentation & Controls (I&C)
- Assist in developing P&IDs, system control philosophies, and alarm setpoints.
- Design and specify programmable logic controllers (PLCs), remote terminal units (RTUs), and SCADA systems.
- Provide input on equipment procurement specifications and review instrumentation data sheets.
Project Management & Coordination
- Coordinate with project managers, designers, and other stakeholders during the design phase.
- Prepare proposals, develop project scopes, and provide cost and schedule estimates.
- Manage field inspections, site visits, and measurements for both public and private projects.
- Provide short-term field support during the construction phase to address design and installation issues.
- Ensure the quality of all engineering deliverables, adhering to QA/QC processes and improving internal standards.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead and mentor less experienced engineers, offering guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist with business development by building client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and participating in sales and marketing efforts.
- Oversee the preparation of cost proposals, qualification statements, and project budgets to ensure financial goals are met.
Compliance & Process Improvement
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives for processes, tools, and standards within the electrical engineering discipline.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders, ensuring satisfaction and identifying opportunities for future work.
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Experience in gas utilities and/or gas processing design engineering.
- Experience in electrical engineering design required.
- B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is required.
- Possession of a valid and active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in a relevant field in any US state (CA preferred), or an ability to obtain CA PE license required.
- Planning distribution work experience required.
- Proficiency in electrical analysis software (e.g., PLS-CADD, O-Calc, SPIDA-Calc, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards (GO95, GO128, NESC, RUS).
- Experience with CAD software and electrical design tools.
- Technical knowledge and experience in pipeline engineering and design and understanding of applicable regulations and standards.
- Minimum 5-8 years of relevant full-time engineering experience.
- Advanced knowledge of design and visualization software such as AutoCAD.
- Advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Office and Teams.
- Ability to develop and update technical documents; safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and logical decision-making ability.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in a professional manner.
- Coachable engineer, eager to learn with self-motivation.
- Plan, direct and review the work of staff engineers.
- Ability and willingness to provide support and training to staff engineers.
- Ability to travel as dictated by project requirements including site visits and in-person meetings.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Have working knowledge in CFR 49 Parts 191, 192 and 195.
- Have familiarity with ASME/ANSI B314 and B31.8 codes and regulations.
- Field Engineering/Construction experience preferred.
- Experience in consulting (or EPC with Design & Engineering capability) is preferred.
- Experience working with utilities in the State of California is preferred.

Wage Data Per State Requirements
Salary range for this position is $110,000 - $140,000. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
