As the Pouwhakahaere, you will be at the heart of our operational strategy, ensuring our services are delivered efficiently, effectively, and with unwavering compassion. Your role will be pivotal in shaping and implementing our operational framework, optimising resources, and leading a passionate team to new heights of excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute operational strategies that align with our mission and vision. Drive innovation and continuous improvement across all service areas.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee daily operations, ensuring the highest standards of service delivery and compliance with regulatory requirements. Optimise processes to enhance efficiency and impact.
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of professionals. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that empowers staff to excel.
- Financial Stewardship: Manage budgets, allocate resources effectively, and ensure financial sustainability. Collaborate with the CFO to develop and implement financial strategies.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, funders, and stakeholders. Represent KFST with integrity and professionalism in all external communications.
- Impact Assessment: Monitor and evaluate program outcomes to ensure we are meeting our objectives and making a measurable difference in the community.
QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or a related field preference for MBA
- Prior experience in operations management, strategic planning, business development, or general management is valuable. Typically, have a least 10 years of relevant experience.
- Strong leadership skills are essential for a COO. This includes the ability to motivate and inspire teams, make strategic decisions, and drive organisational change.

EXPECTATIONS FOR THE POUWHAKAHAERE (COO) IN THE ROLE:
- Key advisor to Pouwhakahaere Matua on day-to-day operations
- Developing and implementing standard operating procedures
- Collaborating with executive leadership to drive growth and innovation.
- Reporting against contractual obligations and performance
- Oversee operational site management in People and Performance, Marketing, Asset Management and Budgeting.
- Assessing business strategies and operational impact.
- Dynamic person with the energy to develop capacity and capability within KFST.
- Have a vision to build organisation national position.
- Demonstrated competency in te Reo Māori me ona tikanga.
- Be efficient and well organised.
- The ability to influence from a culturally sensitive place.
SKILLS
- Demonstrate the values underpinning KFST.
- Strategic thinker with track record of driving business growth and efficiencies.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple sites simultaneously.
- Academically, Politically and Economically Savy
- Proven experience in innovation intelligence, market research, competitive analysis, or related field.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies, industry trends and competitive landscape.
- Well-developed networks, especially with hapū, iwi and the wider community
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Māori societal and familial structures, including whānau, hapū, iwi and the dynamics of whanaungatanga, tikanga and kawa.
- Demonstrate empathy in working with tamariki and their whānau.
- Demonstrate tolerance and understanding.
- Demonstrate ethical practice and the maintenance of professional boundaries.
- Always show a high degree of consistency in behaviour, and act as a clear role model.
