We have an opening for the Director of Electrical Engineering reporting to the Chief of Engineering for our Greater Boston Massachusetts area. The Director of Electrical Engineering will lead and drive the design, development and production of innovative, energy-efficient electronic products. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful execution of new product initiatives, from concept through to market launch, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and reliability. The Director will leverage their expertise in Low Power Electronics design to oversee a talented team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. Their leadership will be instrumental in developing cutting-edge technologies that meet customer needs and contribute to the company’s strategic goals.
Job and Responsibilities
- Mentor engineering staff for career development, retention, motivation and technical capabilities.
- Establish priorities and distribute work to the Engineering departments and outside resources based on priority, workload and individual skills.
- Drive the level of performance of Sloan Engineering employees. Challenge and empower direct reports.
- Manage engineering tools and forecast future requirements.
- Collaborate with the Innovation Team for creating new concepts to pitch to the ownership group.
- Build skills within the organization that allow us to partner effectively through alliances and co-development.
- Educate the company on relevant engineering and technology issues.
- Identify resources (financial and human) needed to meet departmental objectives.
- Continually improve the productivity of the Engineering community through tactics such as best in class Engineering practice, platform approaches and re-use.
- Lead and grow Sloan Engineering competencies to meet the needs of the end user.
- Analyze Sloan’s product roadmaps for short term resource allocation and long term cross training.
- Develop a strong succession plan by growing functional department managers.
- Prepare and present oral and written reports, reviews, proposals and schedules for senior management.
- Work closely with peers and cross-functional teams to ensure that systems and concepts meet the customer’s fundamental needs in the intended market.
- Understand the markets served by the products/systems developed.
- Assist Marketing and Sales in launching products and systems.
- Stay current with global and regional industry standards.
- Other duties and responsibilities as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
- 15+ Years Relevant Experience in product design and development.
- 5+ Years Management experience in a mid to large sized company.
- Direct experience creating or modifying engineering development processes.
- Experience implementing a systems engineering structure and platform development into a company.
- Experience with engineering applications such as Altium, PLM, SAP.
- Familiarity with regulatory codes, standards and test requirements such as UL, FCC, etc.
- Strong communication and leadership skills. This includes a demonstrated track record of introducing change into an organization.
- Manages a program, regardless of size, that has a critical impact on the campus.
- Negotiates and influences others on new concepts and approaches.
- Demonstrates Strong Follow Up Skills - Persistent in their follow up actions to ensure that deadlines are met and monitors the quality and quantity of work delivered.
