Position Overview: We are seeking a full-time Medical Director to join our team. The ideal candidate is passionate about animal care, has excellent communication skills, and is committed to providing exceptional veterinary care. This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse caseload and collaborate with experienced veterinary professionals.
Position Responsibilities:
- Hospital Operations & Financial Management: Oversee the operation and maintenance of the hospital, including care of patients, facility upkeep, fee collections, and report preparation. Provide managerial support in planning, organizing, and coordinating administrative and service activities. Perform budget administration, approve expenditures, and project overtime requirements. Review financial statements monthly, work on increasing revenue and limiting expenses, and assist in developing marketing strategies.
- Leadership & Strategic Planning: Provide strong leadership and motivation, solving problems effectively and guiding a team towards quality patient care and practice goals. Assist in formulating objectives and policies for efficient hospital operations and participate in strategic growth planning. Demonstrate initiative and self-motivation, handle multiple demands and priorities, ensure compliance with federal and state standards, and participate in business development.
- Client Services & Compliance: Ensure high-quality client and personal services, address client needs and complaints, oversee DEA regulations for Controlled Substances, and respond to pet owners' concerns. Maintain client satisfaction through needs assessment, quality service standards, and timely follow-through on responsibilities.
- Team Supervision & Development: Directly supervise associates, including interviewing, hiring, and training. Plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline associates. Conduct monthly case reviews with associate doctors and address client medical/financial complaints.
- Mentorship & Coaching: Develop, coach, and manage veterinary and technical team members for quality patient care and client service. Mentor associate veterinarians on necessary technical and functional skills. Facilitate onboarding and mentorship for new hires, and develop lead veterinarians to coach new associates.
- Leadership & Conflict Resolution: Provide leadership through consensus building, serve as a role model, and facilitate conflict resolution. Exhibit strong leadership, communication, and motivation skills. Show unbiased judgment in personnel management and make fair recommendations regarding disciplinary actions.
- Veterinarian Duties: Perform physical examinations and diagnostic/medical/surgical/dental procedures in a way that supports quality patient care and client education. Communicate effectively with clients to explain diagnosis and treatment plans. Maintain medical records in compliance with laws and regulations. Collaborate with other team members to ensure the highest standard of care for our patients. Participate in continuing education to stay current with medical advancements and best practices. Willingness to teach and mentor new graduates.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
- Valid California veterinary license
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong surgical skills preferred
