Job Summary:
The UCHealth Primary Care – Lone Tree Medical Director will provide clinical leadership to the clinic in partnership with the UCHealth Primary Care operations team for the delivery of high-quality clinical care, productive clinical operations, and a positive work environment for faculty and staff. The UCHealth Primary Care - Lone Tree Medical Director provides direct leadership and supervision to clinical faculty at the practice. They will represent the medical care provided.
The clinician (MD or DO) in this position will function as a family medicine physician in a family medicine clinic, providing high-quality medical care.
Full Time Clinical Position = 1 cFTE: 8 “4 hour sessions” or 32 clinical contact hours/week and two half day sessions (8 hours)/week dedicated to completion of medical records, laboratory result management, and communication with patients. Clinical time includes responsibilities in patient care, clinic functioning and student precepting.

This position is a full-time, 1.0 FTE position: .30 FTE Support for Medical Director duties and .70 cFTE doing clinical work, including maintaining a continuity panel of patients at the UCHealth Primary Care - Lone Tree Clinic. This position will also include a stipend. This position will participate in the call and holiday rotations for the clinic.
Clinical Care
- Provide full-scope direct patient care in an ambulatory clinical setting.
- Participate as needed in chart review and clinical coding compliance activities.
- Assist with Advanced Practice Provider Collaborative Agreements and individual APP support as required for the clinic.
- Assist in administrative/clinical quality improvement functions.
Teaching and Mentoring
- Provide education to fellows and medical students when the clinic is hosting learners.
Administrative/Professional Development
- Maintain eligibility for School of Medicine Faculty.
- Keep abreast of the latest developments in the field, both academically and through applied skills.
- Attend and present at conferences, meetings, and training to maintain certification and enhance professional skills; participates in faculty development activities.
Leadership
- Serves as the physician leader for the UCHealth Primary Care - Lone Tree Clinic.
- Provides leadership, vision, direction, and support to clinic administrative leadership.
- Is the dyad partner with the Practice Manager.
- Serves as the clinical leader for quality initiatives and other value-based programs that CU Medicine/SOM and the health system are engaged in.
- Identifies and leverages opportunities for operational efficiencies and consistencies.
- Along with the Practice Manager and Associate Medical Director, co-leads the clinic’s routine provider meetings and staff meetings.
- Collaborates with the UCHealth Director of Primary Care Operations and Women’s Services and the Department of Family Medicine Clinical Affairs designated team members.
- Develops and supports positive working relationships with faculty.
- Advocates for Family Medicine faculty, staff, and patients.
Operations
- Establishes guiding principles for call schedules, vacation schedules, etc.
- Attends twice monthly Practice Operations Management Committee (POMC).
- Reviews and addresses escalated patient, provider, and staff complaints.
- Ensures provider compliance with University of Colorado School of Medicine, CU Medicine policies and procedures.
- Ensures provider compliance with UCHealth driven and CU Medicine driven initiatives to include training as needed.
- In collaboration with their clinic administration partners, assesses space and staff utilization; develops, implements, and evaluates solutions as needed.
- Collaborates with the School of Medicine and DFM education leaders to ensure mutually beneficial integration of educational needs and clinic operations.
Quality
- Develops, implements, and evaluates the strategy for quality improvement.
- Participates in the monthly Office of Value Based Performance (OVBP) meeting and considers joining Practice Transformation Champion at the monthly Practice Transformation Champions meeting.
Human Resources
- Works with the DFM HR and Clinical Affairs Team to recruit new faculty.
- Leads the OPPE/FPPE process. Provides new faculty orientation and mentorship in conjunction with Department HR, the SOM, CU Medicine, and Epic.
- Develops plans for and assures compliance with advanced practice provider supervision.
- Provides supervision for faculty in the clinic, providing feedback and/or participating in Performance Improvement Plans in collaboration with DFM on issues that have escalated.
- Conducts annual reviews in conjunction with department processes.
Financial
- Supports DFM goals for productivity, hours, and revenue.
- Assures stewardship of additional clinic funding, i.e., RAE, Primary Care 1st.
- Reviews clinic's financial status in coordination with CU Medicine and DFM.
Meetings
The incumbent will be responsible to attend several routine meetings which include but are not limited to:
- DFM Medical Director meetings; monthly.
- Practice Operations Management Committee, weekly/monthly.
- CU Medicine Office of Value Based Performance, monthly.
- DFM Monthly Department meetings.
- LTPC Leadership Meetings, weekly.
- LTPC Practice Transformation Leadership, twice monthly.
- DFM, UCH, and LTPC leadership meeting, monthly.
Work Location:
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Lone Tree, Colorado.

- Experience: Graduation from an accredited Family Medicine Residency program.
- Special Skills: Ability to obtain a Colorado Medical License and possession of a current DEA Certificate. Ability to be fully credentialed with the UCH system and UPI Managed Care.
Assistant Professor
- Education: Terminal degree in Medicine or Osteopathy (MD or DO). Board Certified in Family Medicine.
- Experience: Graduation from an accredited Family Medicine Residency program.
- Special Skills: Ability to obtain a Colorado Medical License and possession of a current DEA Certificate. Ability to be fully credentialed with the UCH system and UPI Managed Care.
Associate Professor
- Education: Terminal degree in Medicine or Osteopathy (MD or DO). Board Certified in Family Medicine.
- Experience: Graduation from an accredited Family Medicine Residency program and 7+ years’ experience working in primary care.
- Special Skills: Ability to obtain a Colorado Medical License and possession of a current DEA Certificate. Ability to be fully credentialed with the UCH system and UPI Managed Care. Ability to meet the School of Medicine’s criteria for associate professor.
Professor
- Education: Terminal degree in Medicine or Osteopathy (MD or DO). Board Certified in Family Medicine.
- Experience: Graduation from an accredited Family Medicine Residency program and 10+ years’ experience working in primary care.
- Special Skills: Ability to obtain a Colorado Medical License and possession of a current DEA Certificate. Ability to be fully credentialed with the UCH system and UPI Managed Care. Ability to meet the School of Medicine’s criteria for a full professor.
Preferred Qualifications (all positions)
- Strong skills in DEI including inclusive leadership and team building
- Experience in an integrated practice/patient-centered medical home (PCMH) environment
- Experience or interest in education and research and faculty development
- Experience with using an electronic health record system, preferably Epic
- Experience with providing Telehealth/virtual visits

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:
Senior Instructor
$195,000 – 222,000 plus the possibility of incentives based on clinical FTE. The Medical Director position comes with a $15,000 stipend.
Assistant Professor
$195,000 – 222,000 plus the possibility of incentives based on clinical FTE. The Medical Director position comes with a $15,000 stipend.
Associate Professor
$201,000 – 228,000 plus the possibility of incentives based on clinical FTE. The Medical Director position comes with a $15,000 stipend.
Professor
$207,000 – 234,000 plus the possibility of incentives based on clinical FTE. The Medical Director position comes with a $15,000 stipend.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
