Cornerstone Commissioning is an industry-leading commissioning firm offering independent laboratory facility performance services for design teams and building owners by verifying facilities meet owner’s project requirements. Cornerstone specializes in biocontainment facilities, including BSL-3 laboratories.
How will you make an impact?
We are looking for a highly effective Commissioning General Manager to manage and grow our specialized life science MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) commissioning business line. This position reports to executive leadership with the responsibility of fostering a high-performance culture that meets or exceeds revenue growth, profitability, and customer satisfaction goals. The multimillion-dollar commissioning vertical is made up of four regions, each overseen by a Commissioning Manager with a team of Commissioning Consultants providing mission critical commissioning services to biocontainment, pharma, life-science, government and academia.
The scope of this role includes the development of the strategic vision for commissioning as well as the ability to successfully execute upon the strategy in a systematic and consistent manner to achieve results. Our commissioning leaders must have a strong engineering background, organizational and operational leadership capabilities, excellent communication, and customer focused.

What will you do?
- Develop a holistic business strategy and communicate it throughout all levels of the organization. Use this vision to motivate all regions towards a unified direction with a laser focus on the operating rhythm of your business and key metrics.
- Continually develop and mentor high potential employees to ensure each region has a best-in-class management and employees that deliver a best-in-class customer and employee experience.
- Partner with sales leadership to identify and drive opportunities for recurring revenue and new long-term clients and projects.
- Proactively manage costs and drive margin improvements with absolute clarity on cost levers at your disposal.
- Exceed customers’ expectations through the optimization of services and the provision of effective delivery processes to maintain the organization’s best-in-class reputation in biocontainment and life science projects.
- Proactively build relationships and lead account reviews with strategic customers.
- Create data driven plans for long-term resource capacity requirements and ensure the accountability of all employees to execute against performance requirements for their role.
- Hold regional managers accountable for their region’s performance and ensure adequate training and performance of all commissioning staff.
- Develop and maintain commissioning documentation and practices.
- Other duties as assigned.

What do you bring?
Education and Experience
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, with an advanced degree preferred.
- Registration in at least one state as a Licensed Professional Engineer
- Requires 10+ years of relevant commissioning leadership experience, ideally with an emphasis in:
- Biocontainment commissioning of BSL-3 laboratorie
- Mission critical commissioning of life science, pharma, and higher education facilities
- Commissioning of existing facilities.
- Requires at least 5 years in a managerial role overseeing other engineers, managing project profitability, generating proposals including fee calculations, running an organization including profit and loss (P&L) responsibility, with oversight over multiple regions preferred.
- Requires people management experience and a history of developing managers who then drive motivation and results for their regions.
- A combination of education, experience, licensure and training may meet requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Leadership of hands-on commissioning on at least 25 mission critical projects from design to turnover
- Ability to effectively communicate with owners, engineers and contractors.
- Engineering business leader with a proven track record of delivering financial results.
- Proven leader capable of thinking strategically and driving execution in a large organization.
- Capable of managing >$5M P&L and developing and executing multi-year business plans
- Ability to drive operational efficiency, accountability, and rigor around key performance metrics.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, including the use of open and constructive feedback.
- Ability to manage managers and motivate and engage employees.
- Relationship builder – delighting customers and partnering with Sales and other internal cross-functional teams to drive growth.
