Overview of Position:
Provide legal guidance and support to the legal team as well as key stakeholders at HUB including HR professionals and business leaders and executives across HUB. The individual in this role will work with internal clients and interact heavily with external clients including external counsel, regulatory agencies, and other attorneys representing clients. Key aspects of the role include proactive education and information to the HR and business leader community, offering legal guidance on employment regulatory and compliance matters, and responding to complaints against Hub or its employees regarding unlawful employment practices. Position will include consulting or driving projects and initiatives for Hub as a whole or for specific sub-businesses/Hubs as needed. This individual will report to the Assistant General Counsel, Employment Law and Employee Relations and partner with Hub’s employment attorneys in Canada.
Responsibilities:
- Be a trusted adviser and contact for our business leaders and HR team on a wide range of employee relations matters such as FLSA wage and compensation thresholds and performance management.
- Provide counsel on various benefits issues, such as leaves of absence and accommodations, engage heavily with local HR leaders on the ADA interactive accommodation process.
- Oversee the internal complaint hotline and manage third-party investigator; Partner with local HR to determine appropriate next steps following each investigation.
- Draft and review various employment documents, including employment agreements, separation agreements, and corporate policies.
- Manage and respond to all agency charges of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation through all phases, as well as ongoing monitoring and coordination with external counsel and agency representatives; engaging in settlement discussions.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources team, including Chief Human Resources Officer, to prepare and conduct ongoing trainings; Proactively identify need for training and develop same.
- Assist in development and maintenance of internal policies and procedures to support growth of the Company; Partner with HR Compliance to ensure legal compliance of all internal policies.
- Stay up-to-date on developments to laws throughout the various regions where employees are located, advise company of corrective action needed.
Qualifications:
- At least 10+ years of Employment Law experience plus experience in some or all of the following substantive areas:
- In-house experience partnering with HR managers to provide risk-managed guidance at the field level on employment law issues.
- Interest in fostering community and partnership across all levels of organization.
- Strong communication skills, emphasis on teamwork and collaboration.
- Experience conducting research on legal issues.
- Excellent analytical and writing skills.
- Must be admitted to practice in the jurisdiction in which you are applying.
