What would this role do?
The Senior Department Manager (SDM) plays a critical role in guiding the operational and financial performance of multiple clinics within a designated territory. The SDM scope encompasses overseeing one or more clinics in the Department Manager (DM) capacity while supervising Department Managers at other clinics. This role requires strategic thinking, robust business acumen, and strong leadership skills. This position will require leveraging a keen understanding of healthcare operations to drive business growth through strategic programs and initiatives while prioritizing high-quality Client care. Reporting directly to the Division Vice President (DVP) of Operations, this position plays a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction and ensuring operational excellence across clinical operations.
Role Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the Profit and Loss (P&L) for the assigned region to ensure the key metrics are met, which include, but are not limited to Census, hours to census, and bill to comp as well as other key Utilization metrics.
- Develop and implement strategies to timely achieve financial targets, including revenue growth.
- Analyze financial reports and key performance indicators to identify key needs, areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
- Effectively resolve issues with clients, funding sources, and third-party agencies, pulling in Human Resources, Upper Management, or Legal Counsel as necessity dictates.
- Participate and network to develop or ensure successful delivery of existing and new service lines.
- Identify opportunities for expansion and market growth, collaborating with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
- Support the development of existing and new leaders to help with the expansion of the business unit.
- Complete other duties assigned by the DVP or other Leadership Team members promptly.
Must Haves
- 2+ years of supervisory and clinical experience.
- 1+ year of previous healthcare experience in related areas.
- 1+ year of business management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology or 2 years of supervisory experience in a related field if the degree is in another specialty.
Nice to haves
- Clinical experience including:
- Direct service with individuals with varying diagnoses, diverse levels of functioning, and a broad range of ages.
- Active participation in interdisciplinary teams designed for client and family wellbeing (IEP’s, IPP’s, etc.).
- Program design (data collection, curriculum, progress reports, etc.).
- Business management experience including:
- Support the development of annual budgets aligned with business needs.
- Support the development and execution of strategic plans to drive business growth.
- Ability to own the Profit and Loss (P&L) for an assigned Clinic to ensure the key metrics are met, which include, but not limited to Census, hours to budget, and bill to comp.
- Develop and implement strategies to timely achieve financial targets, including revenue growth.
- Analyze financial reports and key performance indicators to identify key needs, areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
- Ability to summarize and articulate a Clinic’s P&L.
