General Manager (Programming and Performance)
The Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC is seeking an experienced General Manager to join the Programming and Performance team. The General Manager (GM), reporting to the Artistic Director/Director of Programming and Performance, will oversee the operations of the Folger’s extensive public programming, totaling over 400 performances, programs, and events a year. This individual will manage departmental budgets and contracts, along with serving as the primary point of contact for logistics and coordination with staff, artists, partners, and contractors. They will have expertise in negotiating and overseeing agreements with contracted staff and various artist unions such as the Actor’s Equity Association.
The General Manager will be forward-thinking and strategic, constantly searching for ways the Folger can innovatively and efficiently reach institutional goals and outcomes. As a detail-oriented self-starter in a multi-faceted position, they will be capable of working and advising on multiple projects both independently and in collaboration. The GM must be able to make decisions and exercise discretion to prioritize assignments and work under pressure, as many projects are time sensitive and involve concurrent deadlines. Above all, through their work, they will be a partner in striving to make the Folger Shakespeare Library and its resources a gathering place for diverse individuals to connect in their own way.
The schedule for this role is flexible with the Programming and Performance team having core working hours from Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. This position will include frequent evening and weekend hours for regular programming. The selected candidate will need to be within a commutable distance to the D.C. office (DC, MD, VA) by their start date.
Compensation: This is a monthly-paid salary position, with an annual rate of $68,000-80,000.
