Garfield Park Behavioral Hospital is dedicated to providing behavioral health and psychiatric support to children and teens ages 3 to 17. The Director, Education/Academy:
- Coordinates nature and quality of academic education provided to hospitalized Children and Adolescents.
- Facilitates resolution of issues unique to the educational discipline.
- Provides classroom instruction to students in one or more programs of the hospital within the therapeutic milieu.
- Communicates proffessionally with schools regarding each patient.
- Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning, implementing and evaluating individualized treatment
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
Experience: Previous experience working with children and adolescents with special educational needs preferred.
Licensure/Certification: BA or BS in Elementary or Secondary Education Certification. Active substitute teaching certificate and or certification in Special Education preferred. BLS Provider certification through the American Heart Association and CPI certification required upon completion of orientation. BLS Provider and CPI certifications must remain active throughout employment.
Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of effective teaching skills and educational strategies with a special education at risk, urban population, individual and group management skills, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting and crisis and behavior management. Be able to use a Trauma Informed Care approach to teaching.
