We are seeking a cleared or clearable Software Engineering Manager to lead a Cyber Software Engineering Department. This department will consist of a group of ~5 managers with ~100 engineers reporting to the manager.
The Xetron campus of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is growing rapidly and we are opening up this new department management role to lead high-performing teams of software engineers developing cutting-edge Cyber Operations solutions. This is a dual-role position, involving direct management of talented 1st line managers and software engineers as well as project engineering leadership for technically advanced software development programs. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, a solid software development background, and outstanding leadership skills. We have a preference for candidates with experience in multiple relevant technology areas, such as application software development, graphical user interface design, creation of web applications, embedded software, or software security.
Your direct management responsibilities will include:
- Managing and guiding managers and software engineers
- Meeting your department (section) objectives
- Setting objectives and then monitoring and reviewing yearly progress for your team
- Being responsible and accountable for managing the workload of your direct reports
- Recruiting, interviewing, and hiring top-ranked engineering and management talent
- Providing timely, constructive support and feedback to your reports on a regular basis
- Completing semi-annual performance assessments of your team members
- Motivating your team members (engagement) and facilitating regular meetings with them
- Providing mentoring and career development to each team member
- Coordinating training for each team member
- Providing appropriate tools and resources for your team's software development activities
Your project engineering leadership duties will include:
- Leadership of program technical execution in order to meet cost and schedule constraints
- Program staffing for optimal execution
- Technical direction, guidance, and mentoring of project team members
- Working programs, proposals, or internally-funded activities in a technical or leadership role
- Risk-mitigation planning and execution
- Strategic problem solving
- Earned value management

Basic Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other STEM-related field
- 9 years of software engineering experience (or 7 years with a MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other STEM-related field; or 5 years with a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other STEM-related field)
- Demonstrated engineering management experience
- Experience recruiting and developing top engineering talent
- US Citizenship is required
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance (NG will sponsor)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong, demonstrated communications and interpersonal skills
- Experience in multiple relevant technology areas, such as application software development, graphical user interface design, creation of web applications, embedded software, or software security
- Prior technical management/supervisory experience
- Experience with the Agile development methodology
- An ability to showcase the company's capabilities to existing and potential customers to support business development activities
- Experience with U.S. Government contracts
- M.S., M.B.A., or other advanced degree
- Active Top Secret security clearance
Salary Range: $164,200 - $246,400
