Job Title: Scientist/Sr. Scientist, Lead Discovery
Job Number: 77952
Location: San Francisco, CA, US
Job Description
General Proximity is a seed-stage startup developing the next generation of induced-proximity medicines. Our OmniTAC drug discovery engine furnishes molecules that co-opt existing cellular machinery to overcome therapeutic challenges, which have remained unapproachable to other modalities for decades.
We are seeking lead discovery scientists to help us pioneer this uncharted frontier of drug discovery.
The Position
We are seeking an experienced Lead Discovery Scientist to be a member of our Platform/Drug Discovery Team. In this position, you will work in close conjunction with our Biology Team in the development of our core drug discovery technology and the generation of a completely novel class of therapeutics.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the design and execution of lead discovery campaigns to identify novel small molecule hits and advance them through hit-to-lead and lead optimization stages.
- Working with the Platform and Biology teams to develop and implement biochemical and cell-based assays for hit identification and lead optimization.
- Evaluating compound potency, selectivity, and mechanism of action.
- Biophysical and biochemical assay development.
- Expressing, purifying, and characterizing target proteins for structural studies.
About You
- High Agency: Initiative, independence, and self-accountability are some of our most valued traits.
- Enthusiastic: We love people who are excited about what they are doing and are generally attempting to build a high-energy team.
- Intensity and Grit: We are looking for candidates who have a demonstrated ability to stick with complex problems for the long haul.
- Prosocial: We are here to create life-saving medicines for the patients who need it most.
Qualifications & Nice-To-Haves
- PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology, or a related field.
- Proficiency in:
- Strong expertise in the design and execution of lead discovery campaigns using HTS techniques such as DEL and SMM.
- Strong expertise in phenotypic cell-based assay development.
- Experience in biochemical and biophysical assay development (e.g., SPR, BLI, DSF, etc.).
- Experience in PPI techniques (e.g., BRET, APEX/BioID, AlphaScreen).
- Mammalian cell culture, molecular biology/cloning, PCR, and other common biology techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Nice to have:
- 2+ years of post-degree experience.
- Familiarity or experience with PROTAC/next-gen IPM technologies.
- Experience in computational drug discovery.
- Experience in protein expression, purification, and structural characterization techniques.
- Prior experience on teams that have successfully advanced research to the clinic.
Benefits
- Strong equity incentives.
