Amazon Web Services is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the New Regions mechanical design group and become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint. In this role you will manage a team of engineers that influence all aspects of Mechanical design, construction, operations, and maintenance for our global fleet of data centers. This includes coordination with discipline leads across the AMER regions. You will work with internal and external teams to define, design, detail, and document the various Mechanical features that our facilities require, using both prescriptive and performance-based design approaches. As an Owner, you will strive to ensure the Mechanical features of our buildings protect our people and keep our customer's data safe and uninterrupted over the life of the building. We expect you to contribute your expertise to the continual improvement of our Mechanical design standards.
Primary responsibilities will be to oversee project-related work related to the cooling, heating, and plumbing systems for AWS data centers. The ability to coordinate Mechanical system space requirements, supporting utilities, and equipment locations, and to provide detailed construction specifications for all Mechanical-related trades will be expected. You will typically be responsible for the team's preparation of detailed designs for HVAC, plumbing, and hydronic systems. You will review all mechanical and plumbing drawings to ensure they meet the code requirements described in our design standards.
As the team's subject matter expert, you will serve as the point of escalation for the team on technical mechanical and plumbing systems. You will ensure that the team has the information they need to design our data centers the way we expect them to, and that our operations teams are well equipped to operate and maintain them as needed to meet our goals. As part of this role you will work with internal and external stakeholders, including design, construction, commissioning, operations, vendors, and other service providers, as well as local building and fire officials. You will be part of a global team, and you will be an integral part of our work to change the world through technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
- Driving improvement of design standards and project approaches across the organization.
- Coordinate with third party design vendors to review concept designs and designs in progress to ensure they meet established design standards, local code requirements, and any other requirements of the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Be responsible for providing high quality Mechanical engineering advice on a wide variety of projects globally while working with global Mechanical engineering teams to achieve alignment of designs and design objectives.
- Coordinating with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to answer requests for information and value engineering queries.
- Be responsible for construction documents, code compliance, design and installation standards, water supply evaluation and assessment, testing, inspections, and submittal review. Meet with AHJs as needed to ensure approval of Mechanical features.
- This position will require up to 25% travel.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a field related to Mechanical or an equivalent engineering degree in a related field with at least 5 years additional qualifying experience.
- Minimum of 5 years managing a team of engineers.
- Cumulative 10+ years of experience in design engineering or the construction industry, related to all aspects of Mechanical, including fire suppression systems, fire alarm and detection systems, fire-resistive construction, and life safety.
- Experience applying local codes, National Mechanical Association (NFPA) standards, International Code Council (ICC) requirements, and other Mechanical industry standards, procedures, and methodologies.
- Experience with processes of design review, specification, development of design standards, and submittal review.
- Ability to read and understand construction documents for all trades (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.).
- Licensed Mechanical Engineer.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience authoring white papers, technical documentation, training materials, Code Modification Requests (CMRs), and Alternate Materials and Methods (AMM) proposals.
- Experience directly related to construction of data centers, critical medical, industrial, construction, oil and gas, or large-scale mechanical and power systems.
- Strong knowledge of ICC Codes and Mechanical industry standards, procedures, and methodologies.
- Experience with performance-based alternatives to prescriptive Mechanical design.
- Advance knowledge of both mechanical and electrical systems commissioning.
- Strong business analytics skills.
