About the Team
The Data Platform & Observability Engineering organization is responsible for providing core data platforms, analytics platforms and observability services at Workday. Our focus is on the development of large scale distributed systems to support mission critical Workday applications both in private and public cloud. We are seeking a Director of Data Infrastructure that will lead multiple engineering teams and be responsible for the Messaging, Caching and NoSQL systems, Cloud infrastructure, Platform deployments and performance, reliability and scalability of our data systems.
We are seeking a highly motivated and technical leader in this space. You are a high potential technology leader who understands technical and business realities and can articulate both near-term and long-term perspectives and be able to complete your vision. You have a track record in the delivery of software products with proven experience in building, leading and motivating a strong distributed team of software engineers responsible for developing and deploying web-scale, SaaS-based solutions according to customer and business requirements.
About the Role
In this highly technical role, you will drive the vision, strategy and execution of Workday’s distributed data systems that power our products.
Responsible for leading, motivating and developing multiple engineering teams. Provide hands-on technical leadership and mentoring to the engineering teams. You will also be responsible for the engineering roadmap.
Drive the architecture, execution and delivery of Messaging, Caching and NoSQL systems, Cloud infrastructure, Platform deployments and performance, reliability and scalability of our data systems.
Lead the adoption of practices like service ownership, shift-left testing, DevOps, Secure Coding life cycle, continuous delivery, SRE, and software defined everything.
Deliver amazing platform engineering outcomes through your teams in areas of ownership, building reliable, scalable, and highly performant services and features using industry standard methodologies.

Basic Qualifications
10+ years of progressive leadership experience in high scale technology organizations with demonstrated technical and business acumen. Must have demonstrated software development experience delivering new products to market.
Bring a people centric approach to leadership. Must have been a Manager of Managers.
Deep working experience with Big data technologies like ElasticSearch, Hadoop, Kafka, RabbitMQ, NoSQL databases, etc.
You also bring an operational mindset to the engineering team and strive to achieve operational excellence of the Platform.
Deep working experience on at least one public cloud (GCP/AWS).
Deep understanding and commitment to software engineering principles/processes (e.g. Lean, Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, TDD, SRE) and continuous improvement through measurement.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical field or relevant experience.
Other Qualifications
An ideal candidate will have exceptional presentation skills and be motivated to participate at speaking engagements, industry forums and conferences.

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations in the United States (US) are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
