Don’t let the job title fool you — this isn’t the kind of product manager role where you tactically lead a team that’s developing a single product. Instead, this role is more like an internal consultant and change agent, where you take your deep expertise in using data to inform product-development decisions and teach other product managers throughout this highly diversified company how to make data-driven techniques a more integral part of their own processes.
The headline here is: “Data Maven Builds Innovative Product Analytics Capabilities Across the Businesses.”
Part catalyst, part evangelist, total expert, you’ll quite literally travel throughout the company sharing your ideas, insights and best practices around data-driven decision-making in product management. This will take several forms — webinars, workshops, special projects, pilot testing, presentations, ad hoc support — all with the goal of developing actionable approaches whose results can be measured.
Your clear vision extends beyond the challenges of a specific product, beyond the appeal of data-driven decision-making, and all the way through to the client. For you, the whole purpose behind using data to create better products is to make the lives of clients easier. The data focus you have today stems from years of working on product development teams in which you’ve become experienced in A/B testing, bringing new product features to market, and setting your priorities and KPIs according to the most relevant data.
You’re comfortable interacting with product managers, data scientists, testers, developers and broad stakeholder groups. You’ve developed strong business judgment and an excellent sense for presenting information in compelling and persuasive ways, including visually.
The nice thing about your background is that you haven’t spent your entire career in one niche; instead, you have a nimble mind, shaped by experience to crave variety and the learning of new fare. You adapt quickly to new material, new environments, new people; you’ll have no problem embedding yourself in a business that’s new to you and coming to a quick understanding of its nuances.
Finally, you’ve got the kind of personality that causes people to pay attention: intelligence, humor, sensitivity and gravitas. When you come knocking, you instantly inspire confidence that you know what you’re talking about and are a person worth listening to.
