Job Description
Saint Joseph's Medical Center is seeking a full-time Director of Nursing Academic Program. The purpose of this position is to develop and implement a Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) model of clinical nursing education. This innovative model of collaboration between the College of Mount Saint Vincent's - Saint Joseph's School of Nursing and Saint Joseph's Medical Center is designed to enhance collaboration between nursing academia and professional practice to provide increased learning opportunities by immersing students in the nursing role. The Director of Nursing Academic Program role has a dual reporting relationship to the College of Mount Saint Vincent, Saint Joseph's School of Nursing (CMSV, SJSON) and Saint Joseph's Medical Center (SJMC). The position will be an employee of Saint Joseph's Medical Center with non-tenured faculty rank at College of Mount Saint Vincent. The position is based at Saint Joseph's Medical Center, Yonkers, New York Campus.
Key responsibilities for this inaugural appointment include:
- Develop role for clinical faculty, preceptors, nursing administration, and students.
- Develop and provide education to faculty, SJMC staff, clinical preceptors, and students on benefits of a DEU model.
- Provide oversight of competency-based quality nursing education (didactic and clinical rotations) by including the necessary curriculum content and expected American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials competencies for graduates of this baccalaureate program.

- Operationalize curricular and operational programming for all matters including didactic lectures, student development, clinical placement, and the establishing of programs, policies, and processes that support students in their academic success.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership and staff in operationalizing processes for clinical experiences.
- Serve as the clinical facility coordinator responsible for all clinical placement within the organization.
- Collaborate with the SJMC Nursing Department in providing nursing staff development to facilitate evaluation and implementation of evidence-based nursing practice.
- Provide clinical preceptor training and develop methods to provide ongoing feedback to preceptors and nursing leadership.
- Serve as the Clinical Faculty liaison between clinical preceptors, students, and clinical faculty.
- Responsible for student evaluations and grading.
- Development of budget for academic programs.
- Participation in SJMC and SJMC SON department programs and Committees.
- Serve as representative of SJMC and CMSV, SJSON to the community.
Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing required. Doctor of Nursing Practice preferred (or in progress) from a regionally or nationally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
- Recent clinical practice experience of at least five years.
- Academic Nurse Educator Certification or willingness to obtain within one year of hire.
- Educational and Nursing Leadership experience.
- Previous classroom and clinical education experience required.
- Unencumbered, current New York Registered Nurse license.
- American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Evidence of professional development in the field of Nursing.
Prior to hire, applicants are required to have satisfactory clearance from a pre-employment physical, including immunizations required by New York State, reference and credentials verification, satisfactory clearance of criminal history record, and satisfactory clearance of all other applicable regulatory record checks.
