We are looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer for our Machine Translation team. If you are curious about the role of AI in tech, and translation specifically, this is the job for you. The Machine Translation team uses large scale deep learning models to deliver translations that help billions of users overcome language barriers. Our engineering team incorporates research breakthroughs into an Azure Cognitive service that powers translation in Microsoft applications like Bing, Edge, Teams and Office, as well as thousands of companies to translate everything from social media content to documents. This team is a unique blend of 'research' and 'product'.
We're a small, agile team, light on pigeonholes, big on autonomy. We've recently completed migration to Kubernetes and are still figuring out the micro-services world. We strive to stay current with the latest engineering tools and practices like Git, VSTS, Cloud Build, frequent releases, and scrum planning. Most of our codebase is in C#.
This position is focused on the backend service that hosts the translation models. It involves maintaining key objectives like latency, throughput, and availability, while solving runtime problems for a production cloud service such as scale up and out, deployment, performance, memory usage, scheduling, queuing, and automation. There will also be an opportunity to collaborate with our researchers on NLP problems like tokenization, Unicode normalization, safe translations, tag consistency in output, and other pre and post processing steps.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.
