About The Team

Workday has an immediate opening within the CORE Compute group for an experienced development manager. The Compute team builds and owns the transaction processing engine and frameworks that enable all Workday applications and develops code at the very heart of Workday’s technology stack.
About The Role
What you'll do:
- Lead a team of dynamic software developers to build and maintain core distributed compute platforms and frameworks that support application development in a SaaS environment. Provide overall direction and guidance to the team.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and support to the direct report staff in both technical and non-technical issues. Ensure high productivity of the team members. Provide support for their career growth and personal development.
- Understand the business strategy and goals, translating those into actionable objectives and key results.
- Plan releases and schedule development. Provide estimates and initial assessment for proposed development tasks. Track and report progress of the project against key milestones. Balance resources with task assignments. Ensure on-time and high-quality delivery of the project.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams towards operational excellence.
- Keep feature stakeholders updated throughout the development cycle. Provide liaison with relevant parties to facilitate the release process. Manage development related customer escalation when needed.
- Contribute to process improvement within a development organization. Institute and adopt best engineering practices.
Your background includes:
- Passion for software development and building a strong engineering team. Ability to motivate and inspire the team.
- 5+ years experience in enterprise software development, 5+ years OO software design and development experience, 3+ years experience in leading a software development team.
- Strong organizational skills. Experience in planning and execution of software development projects. Exposure to agile development methodologies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong ability to mentor developers. Good at recruiting and team building.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
- BS in Computer Science or related fields.
- Strong technical knowledge in software development.
- Knowledge in Object Oriented runtime system and in-memory distributed computing a strong plus.
About You
In this leadership role, you will drive highly technical initiatives and empower your team members to innovate and continuously deliver critical business capabilities and enhancements. An ideal candidate for this role will be a hands-on technical leader.
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of OO software design and development experience.
- 5+ years experience in Agile development.
- Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field.

- Capable of being a hands-on software development leader.
- Deep understanding of the software development life cycle.

- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Workday Pay Transparency Statement
The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants. Recruiters can share more detail during the hiring process. Each candidate’s compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, geography, experience, skills, job duties, and business need, among other things.

Primary Location Base Pay Range: $156,000 USD - $234,000 USD
Additional US Location(s) Base Pay Range: $121,600 USD - $234,000 USD.
