These events include, but are not limited to, conferences, trainings, receptions, and dinners to include internal teams as well as external partners. Events hosted at our organization are held to an exceptional standard, in a venue that requires the nuance and care of a museum. A successful event involves seamless setup, with minimal impact to the staff and location, seamless audio, visual, lighting and aesthetics.
THE POSITION:
We are seeking an experienced and professional Technical Director to join our AV Production team, which oversees and manages all technical aspects of the events held at our locations. In this role you will lead technicians to build out and operate technical needs for events, providing guidance and oversight to video, audio, and lighting elements. Reporting directly to the AV Lead Director, you will work in partnership with leaders across several departments including Events, Facilities, Catering, Office Services, IT, and Security to align with the overall needs for our events.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and prepare event documents (floor plan, equipment lists, etc.) to ensure proper installation and programming of technical elements.
- Work with AV Production team to manage and advance long term projects involving building infrastructure and technical equipment.
- Using a strong working knowledge of technical proficiencies (Audio, Video, Lighting), you will guide technicians through troubleshooting issues throughout setup and show. You will also be expected to fulfill unique requests from the Events teams for their technical needs.
- Interfacing with Events team and event hosts to stay up to date on event needs.
- Track time and schedule calls for freelance technicians.
- Work closely with external vendors to procure, schedule and process payment for rental equipment.
- Ability to work off‐hours during special events and busy times are required.
- Maintain, track, repair in‐house equipment inventory.
KEY EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
We seek candidates who are detail oriented, future thinking, strategic, adaptive, curious, and have excellent judgment as well as the following skills and experience:
- 5+ years of event production and technical management experience.
- Professional background in technical or theater production preferred.
- Strongly preferred: Experience with design and installation of permanent AV systems.
- Strongly preferred: Experience with networked AV systems (Harmon BSS, Dante, Q-Sys, etc.).
- Experience with event production AV equipment, including but not limited to:
- Lighting: DMX Fixtures, Chauvet brand equipment.
- Audio: Yamaha, Allen & Heath consoles. Shure and Sennheiser microphone systems.
- Video: Barco and Roland brand switchers. SDI and HDMI signal conversions.
- Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills; including an ability to recognize key issues and communicate them effectively to key stakeholders with recommendations.
- Effective team organization skills; promoting collaboration and removing obstacles to improve teamwork.
- Ability to assess, reprioritize and stay focused through long and short‐term projects with multiple deliverables even when faced with setbacks.
- Ability to follow set procedures already established by the organization and suggest diversions when appropriate.
- Exceptional client service, written and verbal communication skills.
- Flexible, open, positive, and comfortable working in open team‐orientated environments.
- Accountability; operating with the highest standards of personal and professional integrity.
- Expectation for after hours and weekend work as necessary to complete projects with minimal impact to staff.
- Solid PC skills including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Preferred: Drafting experience.
- Preferred: Zoom Meeting and Webinar management (Spotlighting, waiting room, breakout rooms, etc.).
