Overview
In a world increasingly impacted by climate change, pollution, and population growth, conventional production of fresh/fruiting vegetables is unsustainable. Compared to field production, greenhouse hydroponic methods use 90% less water, increase yields, reduce food waste, use fewer pesticides, eliminate fertilizer runoff, and allow crops to be grown locally. However, greenhouse producers make up only a small part of today’s market due to high capital/labor costs and operational complexity. To close this gap, Hippo Harvest uses new methods of hydroponics, robotics, and machine intelligence to re-imagine greenhouses and build the sustainable, economical, and scalable production systems of the future.
As a Infrastructure and Dev Ops Engineer, you’ll design and improve the on-premise and cloud infrastructure necessary to keep our robots and ML models operating at peak performance, and help us establish best practice in terms of testing and CI/CD in the complex and dynamic operational domain of robotics and machine learning.
You Will
- Administer and expand our on-premise compute and database infrastructure for maximum availability and robustness; our farm needs to remain fully functional even if we experience week-long internet outages, which are common in our rural environment
- Design, implement, and administer our cloud strategy for compute and database replication, enabling ML model training and analytics at scale
- Assist in troubleshooting network and Linux system infrastructure, and help design for scaling mobile robotics systems to large areas as we expand our greenhouse footprints.
- Bring best-practice to our CI/CD and testing approaches
You Have
- A documented history of problem solving and flexibility across infrastructure and dev ops
- A strong growth trajectory and desire to expand your skill set as Hippo’s needs evolve
- Experience with:
Kubernetes or other cluster administration systems
Bring up and administration of CI/CD systems
Some familiarity with several of:
Hybrid on-premise and cloud systems
Git- and docker-based CI/CD on platforms such as GitHub or GitLab
Linux systems
Network design and debugging
Database administration
Cloud-based ML training
We Offer
- An exciting and fun work environment where your contributions will make a true difference
- A hybrid environment with 1-2 on-farm days (in Pescadero, CA) and 3-4 remote days a week
- Competitive salary from $160,000 – $210,000 based on level
- Full benefits package including six weeks of paid vacation, medical/dental/vision/life insurance, twelve weeks of paid parental leave, 401k, company stock options
