Ironwood Pharmaceuticals is a leading gastrointestinal (GI) healthcare company on a mission to advance the treatment of GI diseases and redefine the standard of care for GI patients. One of the focus areas is on discovering, developing, and commercializing innovative treatments for patients with severe, rare conditions for which there is a significant unmet medical need. The lead product candidate, apraglutide, is a next-generation, best-in-class, synthetic peptide analog of glucagon-like peptide-2, or GLP-2, and is in Phase 3 for the treatment of patients with short bowel syndrome, or SBS, a malabsorption disorder caused by the loss of functional small intestine. It is an exciting time to join as Phase 3 is underway and the company is preparing for an initial launch in the coming years for which it is building out a commercial presence.
Purpose Of This Role
Reporting to the Vice President, Global Market Access, Reimbursement, and Distribution, the Senior Director, Market Access Strategy and Marketing will play a leading role in expanding the company’s capabilities to commercialize future products, including apraglutide. Major Responsibilities And Accountabilities
- Represent the Market Access team as an integral member of the brand marketing team
- Lead apraglutide launch payer & access strategy effort, development of and pull-through of brand value proposition and tactics for payer audiences focusing on timely access & reimbursement at launch
- Align with the apraglutide brand team to develop messaging to effectively communicate value to payers
- Responsible for leading the strategic pricing workstream for apraglutide
- Support gross to net model calculations, accurate and timely submissions of all government price reporting obligations
- Productively engage with key external partners in partnership and aligned with Medical Affairs strategy including patient advocacy groups, professional societies, agencies, and experts
- Drive the development of tools to educate payers on the SBS burden of disease, spectrum of disease, patient journey
- Lead development of tools to drive product awareness, reimbursement, and pull-through across US payers, particularly Medicare, Commercial, state Medicaid, and Managed Medicaid plans post approval
- Manage external payer marketing agency work to develop and support customer materials
- Support annual brand planning, forecasting, and budgeting process for payer and channel customer segment
- Perform all company business in accordance with regulations and company policies and procedures
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree; MBA preferred
- A minimum of 15 years of successful pharmaceutical experience.
- A minimum of 6-10 years of successful experience in market access, training, and sales in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Full functional knowledge of the US payer and reimbursement landscape for pharmaceutical products, including private and government payer programs
- Expertise and deep understanding of the Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid payer dynamic and landscape
- Previous rare disease launch experience in the U.S. Experience supporting the launch of new products
- In-depth knowledge of current trends in regulation, contracting, and reimbursement.
- Strong understanding of the legal and regulatory environment along with demonstrated integrity on the job.
- Outstanding corporate environment, interpersonal, and communication skills with the established ability to effectively work with diverse audiences and influence cross-functionally. Ability to travel globally

Ironwood currently anticipates that the initial base salary for this position could range from between $232,000 to $270,690. The actual base salary will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience.
