Job Overview and Summary
The Director, People and HR will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our charter management organization by leading our talent acquisition, human resources, and performance management strategies.
Key Buckets of Work
- HR Operations and Compliance:
Ensure HR operations are efficient, effective, and compliant with all legal and regulatory requirements.
Streamline HR processes and systems for scalability and improved staff experience.
Engage in direct support of HR-related workstreams such as employee relations, investigations, policy creation, and compliance work.
- Strategic Management of People and HR Team:
Develop and implement a comprehensive team strategy that aligns with the organization’s strategic goals and educational mission.
Lead workforce planning efforts, identifying current and future talent needs and gaps.
- Recruitment and Talent Acquisition:
Provide strategic oversight and management of the recruitment process, implementing innovative strategies to attract diverse, high-caliber candidates.
- Performance Management and Development:
Design and maintain a robust performance management system that drives high performance, supports professional growth, and is aligned with organizational objectives.
- Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB):
Champion DEIB initiatives, embedding equity and inclusion into all talent management practices and organizational culture.
- Leadership and Organizational Development:
Provide visionary leadership, inspiring and motivating the people and HR team and broader organization towards achieving excellence.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to align people and HR strategies with organizational needs.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) required, preferably in human resources; Graduate degree preferred.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and understanding of urban school environments.
- Strong people management skills, including coaching and facilitating professional development.
- Leadership experience with change management in a dynamic, growing organization.
- Exceptional project management skills with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire, and build strong working relationships.
- Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Strong computer and technology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Comfort with ambiguity and working in a fast-paced environment.
- A demonstrated passion for improving K-12 public education.
- Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred but not required.
- Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation as travel between school sites in Los Angeles will be required.
